I'm looking for ways to play better and I'm looking to understand both the basses and amps in more depth, and that is why I am joining the discussion. I'm a long-time guitarist, and although I have played the bass less than a year I have the general technique and theory background to make quick progress.
I bought a Fender Highway 1 Jazz bass and a Fender Rumble 100 and I think they sound great, especially the bass. It is an incredible instrument to learn on. I chose it over the Precision mainly because I know a bass player who is partial to the J bass. It is very heavy but a lot of players relate this to a strong sound and presence. The amp looks and sounds good, but I have a strong interest in the original Fender Bassman combo with a 60 W tube amp and 4x10 cab. That is another reason for joining the forum, to get the low-down on amplification.
In recent years I have taken a more technical and theoretical approach to both guitar and bass, including learning to read music, and I think that way is pretty cool, so its possible I can contribute to the forum as well as learn.
