Hello

Hello! Just started playing bass guitar after trying double bass last year but having to stop because of some physical issues. I'm playing fretless as it feels closer to double bass. I've studied classical guitar for a few years and am finding that holding the bass guitar in a classical guitar position helps me work around a lot of the physical issues I was having with the double bass. I'm using a Squire Jazz fretless but am going to try building a 32" scale bass using Warmoth parts. Looking forward to this journey.

That’s awesome, welcome to fretless! 🙌

Coming from classical guitar and double bass will really help your touch and intonation. A 32" build sounds like a smart, comfortable move too. Enjoy the journey! 🎶

I was a total beginner with the double bass so I’m not even sure what fingering technique I was learning. We were working from the Simandl book if that means anything.

I have spinal degeneration that was causing nerve compression which made my thumbs weak and caused my fingers to spasm. Had nothing to do with my technique. It would get triggered by holding a fork when I was eating. It eventually settled down. I stopped playing double bass but kept going with classical guitar. Just kept my practice sessions short and for a while had to play simpler pieces. I changed what I do at the gym and pay attention to my posture and that has settled the issue for now so I’m trying bass guitar. I’m no spring chicken and I know the problem will surface again but for now I want to try doing something I enjoy.
