On the eve of a milestone birthday, I'm glad I wandered into this thread. Sounds like you got a great deal on a nice bass. Be gone, buyer's remorse It's good that you're here, and that you're playing again. Unlike the bass, that stuff is priceless.

It's fun to be playing again isn't it. We are about the same age and I started back playing a couple years ago to destress and loving it. I bought a Fender MiM fretless, because I want to try fretless and not spend a fortune to try. I love the bass, it plays and sounds good. If you like the play then it was a good deal.

For all you children posting here...

...I just started gigging again on bass. In 2 weeks I'll be older'n dirt. The only problem is finding a "mature" lead player.

Hah! I just turned 44. I remember being in my early 20's thinking how 40+ was just "too old to rock and roll" and that by then I'd be an accountant or something.

WRONG! I am playing better, stronger, and more passionately now than I ever have. Gigging is a trip (especially when one of those girls half my age at the club smiles at me). Equipment has gotten much better, there is a larger community of bass players, and it is no longer viewed as (paraphrasing Sir Paul) "the instrument played by the fat boy standing in the back." The evolution of our instrument has been an amazing thing to be a part of. After 30 years of playing, I cannot wait to see that the next 30 years will bring.

3. I have never heard a non musician give a red rats whisker about where a bass was made.

It is really great to have so many people reasuing me that a thirty five year lay off is nothing. Even better to hear that not all bass players are spotty tennagers! (Yes I know, I was one of them myself all those years ago). 'Course you are all only relling me what I have convinced myself is the fact.( the lady in my life is convinced I have failed to ever grow up!) But it is nice to have it confirmed!
OK........next "lets all help Old Joe" question..........Amps?
I cannot believe the development since my old Vox T60 days. If instruments are much the same as I remember them the bit on the other end of the lead has grown up......or do I mean grown down! It seems that while I've been hibernating amps have got smaller, better and much more powerful. At present I'm using a Carlsbro Bass Bomber. I can't believe such a small pice of gear has so much clarity, tone and power, (but remember what i'm comparing it with). So tell me........good choice....bad choice and if bad what is recomended. Sorry to keep asking for advice but I tend to trust the opinions of musicans over sales staff.

Mexican Fender Jazz Bass is a good bass. You payed a bit
below the half price which is a good reason to be happy about the deal!

When it comes to the serial NR, I wonder if the one on your bass start with MZ1 instead. That + 5 digits makes it a bass produced 2001-2002.
