Help buying new pickup for single humbucker 5 string bass

Hello!

As of recent, I purchased a rather niche bass guitar known as the Ibanez GSR105EXMOL. It's a $200 5 string bass with a single passive humbucker. The bass body, strings, etc. are great, but the electronics are a bit lacking, as to be expected. As such, I would like to look into upgrading the electronics. Unfortunately, there is an overwhelming amount of things one could buy, and my situation is fairly unique. I was wondering if I could get some help in picking out a new pickup and electronics.

Here is the link to my bass, for those who are wondering:

I have done a little research myself and came across what I think to be a very good deal on a EMG 40DC Active pickup + wiring deal:

EMG seems to be a well known brand, and this pack comes with everything I'd need. However, my situation is a bit niche in that I only have space for 1 pickup. Would this pickup be applicable for a single slot, or is it meant to be in conjunction with another on the neck/bridge? Should I go for something else altogether?

My budget is $150 for both pickup and electronics, though I would like to stay near $100. I would love to avoid physically altering my bass in any way, if possible.

Thank you so very much!! Any help is appreciated.

I recently purchased the same bass and put in a $30 wilkinson soapbar and a $59 two band seymour duncan preamp. Greatly improved the tone in my opinion. I did a bit of fretwork to my bass, and it sounds and plays fantastic now.

Any pickup with the emg 40 shape will fit in there without modification so you have a lot to choose from. I believe most companies make pickups in that size.

Emg is a good way to go if you don't want to solder anything and you enjoy their tone. Some people say they're sterile and lifeless, but I like them. I think they're punchy and clear.

Pretty much anything you put in there will be an upgrade from the stock pickup.

I changed the electronics in mine, because I felt that stock it was lacking definition for my style of playing. I like a clean full range "modern" type sound, and the bass didn't do that well in my opinion. I'm also one of those modification addicted individuals.

I could see the bass pulling off a good overdriven rock sound stock.
