Help! Eden WTP900 and WTP600 Cabinet Confusion

Hi everyone,

I need a bit of help on figuring out the Eden WTP600 or WTP900 wiring. The Ohms FAQ was super helpful, especially the part describing stereo amps and bridged mode. I get the math. What I don't understand is Eden's horrible lack of simple diagrams on cabinet connections with the WTP series. I've been looking at the Bareface Big Baby II (Barefaced Bass - Big Baby 2) which is an 8 ohm cabinet, about the right size. If I decide to choose the WTP600, I understand that I could attach two 8ohm cabinets for the full output of the amp. The WTP900 is where I'm hung up, as I have an option to go with either.

I'm super confused by Eden's Cabinet video () and documentation. In the video he explains, "in bridged mode, it is easy to deliver power to one cabinet while retaining the stereo elements of the amplifier" (4 ohms). Then he says "In addition to regular bridged mode, there is bridged series mode, allowing people to use two 4-ohm cabinets rated at 450W each, in a mono output".

I've been reading TalkBass forums for a long time, finally need some help! If I go with a single 8ohm to start with, on a WTP600 I assume I'll get around 300W? On a WTP900, in bridged mode, with a single cabinet, is my max wattage 450W? Do I require a 4ohm single cabinet for 900W or two 8ohm to get the full range? The WTP600 + 2 x 8ohm solution is obvious, but building a rig around the WTP900 is not obvious.

The WTP manual is clear as diluted decaffeinated coffee.

WTP600 - This is two mono 600W power amps @ 4 ohms that are independent: it does not appear that they can be bridged.
GREEN: indicates 4 Ohm compatibility, AMBER: indicates 8 Ohm compatibility, RED: indicates not to use this socket.
1. Amp Speaker 1 Output: Depending on selected mode connect the correct impedance cabinet here using a Speakon speaker lead here.
2. Amp Speaker 2 Output: Depending on selected mode connect the correct impedance cabinet here using a Speakon speaker lead here.
So you can connect one 8 ohm cabinet to each output, one 4 ohm to each output, or a mix of 8 ohm and 4 ohm cabinets according to the setting. Not a bad feature.

WTP900 - You either have a stereo (Left and Right) amplifier with 450W per side @ 4 ohms, two mono 450W amps that can be bridged to 900W @ 8 ohms, or Bridge Series.
Bridge Series: In addition to standard modes the World Tour Pro 900 is able to run in Bridge Series Mode. When engaged the amplifier can be used in bridged mode with 2 - 4ohm cabinets.
GREEN: indicates 4 Ohm compatibility, AMBER: indicates 8 Ohm compatibility, RED: indicates not to use this socket.
1. Speaker Output 1: Depending on selected mode, connect the correct impedance cabinet here using a Speakon speaker lead here.

If you don't already own this amp, maybe this is simply over-complicated with no real benefit. If you do already own it, hit up Eden forum or customer support to provide some drawings.
This further proves that I'd never consider owning any WTP amplifier. That and the front panel mess they contrived.

Great analogy. I've searched Google to no end, but everything I've found suggests it's a single 600W mono amp @ 4 ohms. Where did you see (in the manual or elsewhere) that it is *two* mono 600W power amps? I've gone over the manual a few times. I had been thinking that connecting two 8ohm cabinets would yield max power, or a single 4ohm cabinet to one connection for all 600W of power. Where did you see/interpret you could connect two 4ohm cabinets? @bobcruz definitely a good suggestion on hitting up the Eden forums, and in fact I think I'll call them.

My old Trace Elliot VType is so much simpler

See, I read that part of the manual too. The lack of effort in this documentation really shows. They couldn't put the effort into saying "Bridged Mode: here's your options and most common connections. Stereo Mode: here's your options and most common connections." Example connection diagrams would have been useful, even if it was just on the website. The youtube videos are vague as well.

Honestly I was most interested in the WTP600 anyway, but questioning which Barefaced cabinet to pair up. I'll call Eden and see if I can figure it out, then post back here.

I don't know what the attraction of this amp is. There are plenty of alternatives with the same power, smaller, and more user friendly. Mesa Boogie Subway D-800, Tecamp Puma and Genzler Magellan immediately come to mind as better choices.

There's a sound or tone I've always liked from Eden. I own a WTX264 for practice and jamming with accoustic guitarists. But then again, there's a tone and sound I always liked from Trace Elliot, like my old vtype 300 hybrid. I haven't been in the market for a bigger amp than these until recently. Our guitarist from way back was a Mesa Boogie guy and his sound was fantastic, I guess I just never considered Mesa for bass. I'll explore these options too.

I called Sweetwater today and talked to my rep for a bit. He also said the WTP600 is bi-amp, but you can only connect a single 4 ohm or two 8 ohms was his guess. So they are actually going to call Eden and get more accurate information on both.

I have just been thinking, I could use my Eden WTX264 as a Pre-amp by running the signal out of the Send and into a power amp to keep the Eden tone and stay light-weight. I don't want the Eden pre-amp pedal literally because it runs on 15V and my pedalboard already has a pedal using up my only AC wall-wart slot on the Voodoo Labs (for an Eden Glowplug), but carrying the Eden WTX264 is light-weight.

Thoughts on a clean, portable power amp I could pair up to drive a couple of cabinets?

Hey everyone! So, you guys converted me from Eden. I still wanted a tube preamp, wanted a compressor, wanted power and good tone. Bananas in San Rafael had both an Eden WTP900 and a Mesa Boogie Carbine M9.

I wanted it hooked to a 2x12 8ohm cab, as that's how i will run it most of the time. First problem on the Eden was figuring out how to get things connected in bridge mode. The volume and gain were both 9 o'clock, and i could barely hear the amp with my active bass cranked up. I cranked the gain and master volume to 3 o'clock, set the EQ to 5, killed the compressor, and finally got some Eden tone. Not bad.

Then we switched to the Mesa, same cabinet. I kept it to barely 9o'clock both gain and master and it punched out a really clear tone at a decent volume. When i cranked it, i was afraid to get it past 1 o'clock. It is LOUD and filled with fantastic tones, clean, dynamic. I hit the compressor, really nicely done. Then there's this flavor magic knob thingy, oh man when i started playing with that i was sold. With the multi band EQ, the tone shaping, i can easily get an Eden tone. And that thing is only 600 watts.

It's in my car now waiting to go home! Super happy with that purchase!
