Help for bass/guitar effects?

Hey, i'm planning to buy bass effects this christmas but i had trouble with my band mate since he's getting a bass guitar. I'm probably gonna buy an Ibanez guitar around next year. Well the problem is i need some recommendations on what effects should i buy that will work with bass and electric guitar. I'm planning to buy the zoom B2.1U Bass Guitar Multi-Effects. I'm worried that i might just end up wasting money for that ( i have class concert next year and i think im going to play anesthesia or some bass solo)Invalid Link Removed.

Can anyone give me some recommendations on what to buy? Thanks..

The Zoom 70cdr is just modulation, delay, and reverb...and they're really nice! The amp sims and stuff on the other Zooms are not that great. Maybe just get a Zoom 70cdr and a seperate nice drive pedal. It may cost a bit more, but I think you will be way happier!

I've never had much luck with multi-effects, but a lot of the guys on here like them. I find that they do lots of things pretty well, but none of their effects sound as good as a really nice stand alone pedal. As far as pedals that "go both ways," modulation effects (phase, flange, delay, etc) usually work well. IMO, distortions/fuzz/OD's/etc are where the problems start. Most dirt boxes made for guitar are "tuned" to a guitar's higher frequencies. But there are LOTS of good ones made specifically for bass that work nicely with guitars (too many to mention). Then there are dirt boxes with blend knobs (my fav) that allow you to blend your clean signal with the distortion to avoid losing low end. A great example of this is the Voodoo Sparkledrive - sounds great on bass and guitar.

Having said all this, the only way to know for sure is to demo the same pedal on bass and guitar. This stuff is so subjective - in the end, you just have to trust your ears.

Some things about CDR are really strange - only ONE, but good phaser and awful shimmer - tested together with Wet Neunaber Reverb - and all reverbs (same with Wet, ofcoz') suck.

Really? My MS-70CDR's reverbs sound great. I tested mine against a Source Audio Sound Blok 2 Dimension Reverb and I preferred the Zoom pedal. I could get similar sound out of both units, similar quality but the zoom was way more versatile and easier to dial in the effect / settings I wanted. The Chorus sounds are pretty close to the originals and sound good too. I really like the Corona Chorus, it's quite subtle and sits nicely in a mix. The MXR Carbon Copy delay model sounds great too.

And there you have it. Personal opinion matters. If you're just looking to be able to do things and aren't hunting mythical tone beasts a modern multi will do you quite nicely.

It's been my experience that bass multis don't have amp models with a lot of hair on them, but other than that it's way easier to port from bass multi to guitar than the other way around.

No disagreement on the quality of the 70cdr, but I paid $109 for that multi. I expect the sounds to not be as good as my strymon or H9. Reverbs and delays seemed pretty good, but yeah that Shimmer is plain awful. Also, the ability to stack effects on the 70cdr can offer even more interesting sounds that the H9 would not be capable of simply due to the fact that while their algorithms are complex and often combine more than one effect type, you cannot control the effects or the order of the effects you want to control.

boss has guitar/bass effects, and tc electronics. look for dry and blend knobs, especially blend. the bass octave deluxe, phase 100, and mxr stereo chorus is good for both bass and guitar. the bass fuzz deluxe isn't the best fuzz for guitar, works great for bass. some guitarist use 105q but go with the 535q. the mxr super badass distortion has a dry knob, but i don't know how it will sound on bass. darkglass and other higher end pedals are usually for both bass and guitar.

ive used the boss guitar version of the ME-50 for years. its the same effects as the boss stomp boxes. I use the distortion on it, the chorus, the delay, occasionally the verb and the wah. I use a boss bass stereo chorus and a boss bass flanger on my other channel. all of them work fine for guitar as well, but you will probably want to change setting.
