HELP HELP HELP~~~ advice needed from anyone with any sort of experience

hey guys, here's the deal.
I have an audition this Thursday to play a 5-10 minute set (1 or two songs) for an event my school is having.
Originally i was going to play some pink floyd with a guitarist/singer friend but unfortunately... yep, he bailed right before we had a chance to rehearse. I tried desperatley to find someone else but i cant get hold of anyone.
This naturally ticked me off since it would be my first "gig" of any sort whatsoever

So now i have this 5-10 minute spot to audition for the event alone. i could play guitar but i cant sing for crap. i was thinking of doing a wooten/jaco mix-kinda-solo thing which i have been working on but im not sure if it will sound good live, alone, and especially without any other drum beat or anything (minimal acoustic equipment other than electric bass, and no live/heavy drums).
I want your advice for 2 things
1) should i even bother auditioning or should i cancel it?
2) how do you even eq when you play alone?


Even if I pass the audition, I dont think any more than 150-200ish people will show up to the event but i could be wrong. its not just to listen to music since its also touring the school and stuff but i still want to give it my very best.

well since you posted in the PA forum. Go out and drop 10k on a PA system and before you play a note mention this fact. The band will hire you.

sorry f i didn't make it quite clear, i think this might go better under band humor.

It's not an audition for a band, its an audition to play at a school. the guy i was going to play with just left and i can't find anyone else, is it smart to play on your own (bass solo) for a first gig ever?

Yes, probably...but this is live sound...

Anyways, audition away. If the spot is for a bass player, don't play guitar...just play some nice bass. I'd advise against a Wooten/Jaco type thing, they would probably want something that shows how you'd actually play in the band environment, so take that into consideration.

EQ so it sounds goods. It's that simple. You don't need to fight to be heard, you'll be the only sound being made.

jeez, what a lurch to be left in!

can you wrangle some sort of drum machine, beat box or even a metronome to "jam" with?

random downloaded groove track onto your phone, plugged into the sound system or even your amp??

also, do you really have to play for 5 minutes straight? 3 minutes of something that sounds good might be all that's needed.

Just get the most infectious groove that you can find learn it and play it to a backing track and if you see a head nodding or a foot tapping when you play it !.....you've won !!
