Help, how do I learn GarageBand…

Old guy here, audio tape recording days are apparently finished. I have an iPad Pro loaded with garage band. Any advice on how to learn this NEW technology?

as an old guy myself, I would just add that in addition to the tutorials, just dig in and start messing around. Much of the basics (ins/outs, levels, etc) are conceptually similar to the old analog days (although on a smaller screen with layers of menus to figure out).

Have fun. The new technologies offer a huge amount of capabilities.

You can’t break anything, since everything is digital. Watch some YT vids and start poking around. It’s designed to be easily used by non-techie types, so you should be able to figure it out with time and patience

Just FYI, if you don't get along with GarageBand, there are some very affordable hardware recorders these days. Zoom and Tascam make a few models, that you can also use as digital interfaces. Some of them have the same form factor as the good ol' portastudio type recorders. The more spendy versions also double as mixers.

If you're recording rehearsals, you might want to look at the Zoom H6. Small, portable, comes with a really good stereo mic, records up to 6 simultaneous tracks. Not my fave for overdubs though....
