Help, I need more punch and presence from my P

Thought I'd chime in and tell you how much I love my delano PMVC 4FE/M2 (punch and clarity), though I use roundwounds and read from another TBer that it seems to hate flats with a passion.

It sounds pretty cool, but actually it doesn't sound anything specially different than a good p bass and a good set of flats(the classic combo)

That sound is the easiest to obtain from a good p bass,
like this as well:

Mike's sound was pretty darn bright in those videos I posted, which he was really digging into those flats pretty heavy with that pick though. That guy in the videos you posted had a pretty smooth sound and looked like he had some foam mutes going on at the bridge. Same strings though it looks like, and I really really like that sound he had with his fingers in that first video you posted, very awesome!

it is awesome to know that a Precision bass is capable of that kind of sound, but it must be all in the hands.

Yeah I hear what you hear, and I bet it is all in the hands.

Although in the first video, I m pretty sure the keyboard player's swearshirt adds something to the tone too!

The Tone Hammer has been a really great tone tool in my arsenal for a couple of years now. It has great EQ control and is very capable of fixing the (what I would like to describe as) "in-betweens" of any tone problems you may find between your bass or amp. I'm mainly talking about those minor adjustments that will help you sit in a mix better, or better solidify your tone, that your amp or bass may not be capable of carving out. The TH will also let you dial in the right amount of gain your instrument is outputting all while not coloring the tone as much as some other pedals or DI boxes with EQ options.

Christ on a cracker, I'm willing to bet there is nothing wrong with your pickups, your strings or any of that, except maybe your setup and right hand position! TI flats are amazing on a P bass (hello, Pino!!), but are very temperamental in setup. Chances are your pickup height needs adjusted too. Get a good setup, play a little closer to the bridge, and let us know how everything pans out before dropping $$ into gadgets and gear. Also, PM me if you are interested in hearing a P bass with flats cut through a live mix!
