Double Bass Help identifying bass?

Hi:

I've been reading DB for a couple of months, since my son started double bass (he's 12, and had played piano and clarinet up to now). We're renting a nice Shen laminate instrument now, but I'd like to get him his own instrument -- cheaper to buy than rent, among other things. We want to look at a bass about three hours by car from Tacoma, WA, where we live, but I wondered if anyone could tell me anything about the model from the photos? (no identifying markings on the bass, and the older couple says they don't remember the model from when they bought it several decades ago) If we do go up and look at it, then I'll have it looked at at a bass shop in the area.

thanks for any help!

There is a Shen SB80 located in Snoqualmie currently on CL [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Been a long time since I lived out that way, however if I recall correctly this is about an hour?

Best of luck to you and your son.

thanks Eric and Hqubed for the suggestions. I just called the Snoqualmie CL offer. I've been watching CL, but hadn't seen that one. That sounds like a good match for my son. I'm seeing the SB80s listed for 1400 or so set up at Upton and String Emporium, so I might make an offer on it. (it's listed at 1500.)

Thanks again. He's enjoying playing bass very much.
