Help identifying Fretless Jazz American or Mexican?

Found this bass in a pawn shop, plays good. But I am confused as to whether it is American or Mexican bass. I found a Fender Mexican bass that looks exactly the same except for the color of the pickguard and placement of the headstock decals. If you look at the pickguard near the lower body neck pocket you can see it's kind of chipped off and it's not exactly perfectly flush with the control cavity. The D schaller tuner overhangs the headstock. Any help would be appreciated as I am really missing having a fretless bass.

The neck is not at all Fender made.

Yup an aftermarket neck with an overhanging fingerboard at the heel.

The body, can't tell unless you start unscrewing things.
Usually, MIM uses equal legth J pickups on their standard models. Where of course a US Jazz has a narrower neck pickup vs the bridge pickup.

Yep, it's just a random parts bass that a previous owner "branded" as a Fender. If it plays well and is inexpensive enough, it still may be worth the purchase, but it is definitely not a Fender.

i have an allparts fretless neck that looks identical to that one. mine is a great neck!

if it plays/feels right and doesn't cost too much = a real score!
