If the truss rod is toast, if you have any local pen turner/builders they might be interested in the wood.

That neck back bow looks like whomever stripped it, didn't back off the truss rod when they did. Back off the truss and see if the neck relaxes to neutral. If so, score! It means the truss works and is doing it's job.

Trash bass or not, I wouldn't go cutting that up unless you're positive it won't setup/play correctly. Too much nice, expensive wood was used on that bass just to cut it up and mod it, IMO.

Whatever it is, you definitely need a stylized Trash logo sticker for the headstock.

I ended up talking to the neighbor and someone earlier had called the story pretty much spot on.

This was his very first build and he cannibalized it for parts when the backbow happened. He's moving now and is chucking things he doesn't need anymore including a Telecaster blank he very kindly gave to me.

I'm starting to wonder how feasible it would be to turn this into a Bass VI-like instrument if the neck isn't salvageable. I've always liked the oddity of how they're not quite a bass and not quite a guitar, and if I end up needing a new neck, why not go for that?

High tension 4 string is going to help straighten that neck out (once you've loosened the truss rod), much better than the low tension of a Bass VI set.

I'd go for the Bass VI option if the neck can't be saved. I'd rather not have to go that route, but if the neck has to be cut out why not go for something a little funky? I'm going to put a kill switch in here as well.
