Howdy,

I just picked up this old 3/4 cello and bow and need some help identifying it. I think it might be an old Kay, but I'm not sure. It has the old hatpeg tuners that are real similar to those on my '37 Kay Meyer. Any help would be appreciated. Computer is not cooperating, so I'll post pics tonight. thx.

Well some cellos did have hatpegs and gears, and it does look like a cello... I think what everyone was hoping for was a yankee bass viol, and It doesn't really look like the ones I have seen and played. The bow looks interesting, but it does look like a cello bow. Any labels inside? Maybe a stamp on the bow?

No stamps and I haven't gotten a good look inside, but a local luthier said he thought it was a German full-sized cello in pretty nice shape and that the bow was Brazilwood. It has an unfortunate crack next to the bass bar and someone replace the fingerboard with what appears to be an eboniezed oak version, not to mention someone glued the tail piece back together after it was broken in two.
