Help in funding/scholarships/grants

Hi there, i am a bass player from Portugal and i am 18 years old, i will try to enter the New School of Jazz in NY ( maybe also MSM ) and , as you know, both are CRAZY EXPENSIVE ( both tuition but also the price of rent , food and such )

I’m in search for scholarships , grants, and all around ways of fundind this aventure and making my dream come true ! I’m very motivated and i work very hard, but i’m struggling with findind the means to fund myself and allow me to do this …

Where can i search online for these scholarships and funding paths ?

Any help at all is necessary and i thank you all in advance ! Thanks and jazz on !

Some universities offer music apprenticeship programs for specific types of cultural music or world music. It may be a way to get some extra credit and get your foot in the door, while networking for a scholarship or grant.

Before you get and then slap down that kind of money, do you know what you want from the school? They are a business selling a product. Do you need a degree (paper) or is it knowledge, information and networking you are looking for?

Well i really don't care for the diploma / paper whatever, i think it is nice to have, but by far it's not my priority ! What i want is to live in the heart of the jazz community in the world, to be inspired and surrounded by amazing musicians, whether they are colleagues, teachers or simply musicians , i think that , being my dream to be in New York, it only makes sense for networking reasons to study here !

No question that being in NYC is the way to go. I just question whether or not you need to include the hassle and expense of school. Have you check out Berklee in Boston?
