Help me Choose : Squier P CV 50s or 60s

Hi guys,

First my disclaimer:
First post! I swear to you guys that I have watched all the youtube videos, read all the posts and used the search function! Also, I dont live in the United States, so going into a store with lots of bases to try out is not an option, so e-commerce and prior investigation is a must! :help:

I currently have a Fender Geddy Lee Jazz Bass MIJ. Awesome bass! It gets lots of rave reviews. I love it. And I feel its now time to get into P Bass territory...:hiding:

I have decided that the best way, considering costs, is going the Squier Classic Vibe series route.

I wish I could try both the 50s and the 60s with pick, as I am a pick bass player. I am into rock and I will therefore be playing rock with pick with one of these basses :bassist:

Which one would you suggest, the 60s? or the 50s?

I own both and I can tell you they are both fantastic basses...with that said, without trying them out for yourself it is hard to tell you which is best for you. The neck on the 50's is much more chunky than the 60's bass. Also, the pickups are different so the tone is going to be abit different. Good luck on your hunt...

I have both and am also a pick player. If I had to choose one, it would be the 60's. The neck is a bit slimmer and faster. Also, I think the sound is a bit more modern. That being said, they are both great values for the money.

I personally LOVE the 60's Neck.....and sound......2 different worlds........if you can try them 1st, I would suggest that then decide...good luck

The only big difference I found in both (looks aside), is that:

a) the single coil pickup in the 50's version hums noticeably more. The pickup design also makes the tone very different.

b) (again the pickup) if you rest your thumb on the pickup, the 60's would be more comfortable. But if you don't, it won't make a difference between the two. That is, if you will play fingerstyle too.

Other than that two, they're both good choices IMO. It's up to you to try them out and choose.

Maybe if I think things the following way, it will be wiser/easier to choose:
Which one would sound more different than my Geddy Lee Jazz bass on neck PU position?

It would not make much of a sense to have two similar sounds..

Has anyone had the chance to have these Squier CV and a Geddy Lee in hands?
