Help me find a Cab! (V4BH content)

My head is a 100watt ampeg V4BH. Great sounding head, but since it's not the loudest, I need to get a very efficient cabinet.

Right now I am renting a Markbass 104HR. It sounds great (i love the mid hump). But its a bit expensive (1250CAD), so I'm just looking to see if theres a less expensive cab that will do the job before I shell out.

Needs to be... super efficient, light (under 65lbs), have a mid hump of some kind so it stands out in the mix, tight bottom, and sound good with the amp overdriving.

Cabs im considering so far:
Markbass 104HR/HF
Avatar B212neo
Any light/compact 2x15
Any good pair of 15s.

I would love your input on these, as well as suggestions for all other cabs that would work for me, and even suggestions for cabs types I didnt list. Thank you!

You thinking of buying used?

Just my two cents (based on owning an Avatar 410 and the Deltalite/Deltalite II stats)...that Avatar might not overdrive well. From what I've seen, the Deltalite neo drivers really fall off at around 4k (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) and the tweeter takes over...and overdriving the tweeter will sound like crap. But it might sound fine with some mild overdriving. Have you played the Avatar?

'Compact 215' might be a little bit of an oxymoron. There are a lot of 212's that fit your description, though.

V4B-AV (same amp, vintage cosmetics) on a Barefaced Vintage 2x15, 43lbs, very loud cabinet!!

I've been playing my V4BH through a Schroeder 1212R that I bought from a TB'er here in the classifieds. It might meet your criteria.
It is light weight and compact enough to fit in the backseat of my car. It definitely has that mid hump that cuts through the mix, and from what I understand, these cabs are usually described as being very efficient. I haven't tried to overdrive the head through this cab yet so I can't tell you how that sounds, but the Schroeder may be worth checking out.

+1 to 69 'Vette's reply. The V4BH NEEDS a good amount of drivers to puch a loyya air to get a good volume- I use a NV610- works beautifully. But any good highly sensitive cab with at LEAST 410's or 2x15"s will be good IMO- Good note re the Avatars. Need a cab that'll sound good OD'ing!! Berg NV610-= Bees knees!!!!!

im deciding between a MB104HR, a combination of smaller MB cabs (12+15), or an Avatar B212neo.

Id like to get the avatar to save some money, but does anyone know if they have a mid bump that is at all alike the markbass?

Basically just looking for a cheaper alternative to the markbass(which has the tone i want).

Suggestions welcome :)

At different times I used a Schroeder 1210 and a pair of Bag End S-15Ds with my V4BH. Both combinations were effective but different. The Schroeder had more of a mid hump whereas the Bag Ends have a more flat response.

In the end, I preferred the Bag Ends. They really let the amp shine and I could grab one in each hand for load-in.

Okay there was a decent deal on an ampeg svt810av, 699CAD. I picked it up on rental to try it out along with the markbass 104HR. I'll post some results later tonight. It's looking like a BergNV610 is kinda the best of both worlds, however really expensive and unavailable locally.

Just finished jamming using the 810 and the v4bh. It took a bit longer to dial in the tone but i got it sounding pretty good a few songs in.

(My fav settings so far are Gain: 3/4, UL/UH: off, bass:1/2, Mid:Full, Freq:2, Treble:full)

Heres some specifics from my decision... Im finding it kind of funny actually....

MB 104HR pros:
Slightly favorable tone
1/3rd the weight
easier shlep
cons:
3 inches too deep (doesnt fit in the back seat)
twice the cost
half the volume (sort of)

SVT810AV pros:
Looks cooler
twice as loud
half the cost
has wheels
fits in the back seat (takes up the entire length)
cons:
165 pounds...(3 times the weight of the MB)
nightmare with stairs
needs 2nd person to load into the car without taking forever
doesnt have the MB BUMP that i prefer

I think all of this leads me to really wanting a NV610... I'll have to fight with my budget for a while to be able to get one from clubbass in toronto... Is there any other canadian distributors of berg?

bump

just broke the master volume knob straight off my v4bh while moving it. the shaft on the pot was made out of plastic. now i can adjust the master volume with a screwdriver.... need to get that fixed....

Still wondering about ae410 vs nv610. Does the ae410 sound good and punchy with overdrive?
