Hey y'all I have an idea about giving a bass away to an in-need child. I saw something like this happen on TB years ago, and the idea has always warmed my heart. Now I am the founding member of the "lefties who play righty" club here on TB (are clubs even a thing anymore?) so this is extra special to me. I have an SX 30" left handed pbass in purple sparkle. Its a very fun bass that I bought for an ex-girlfriend. Maybe 5 hours of play time. Its an SX so its a little rough around the edges and the hardware is very cheap. I was hoping that I could get a few TBers to donate some parts + time to get this bass properly set up and in the hands of a young left-handed child!!! DM me if you have any candidates to propose! I am afraid I am not very active in my local music community so I wouldn't know where to begin. I do want to give it to an especially motivated and bass guitar loving child, as I know how easily forgotten about bass guitars can become in a school's music program. With everything that is going on right now I would love for this to end up in the hands of a young child of color, but that is certainly not a requirement. Please chime in if you have any parts to donate or are willing to put together the parts/set-up/fret-dress this bass. Lets come together and pay it forward! Peace and Love, TommyGunn
It would be helpful to know where you are. I have a friend who is connected to a music education program for disadvantaged youth here but the value of the instruments they typical receive through donations isn't high enough to warrant the cost of shipping. You're probably better off looking locally.
I am located in houston but I am more than willing to ship. I am already out like $130 on this thing, whats another $40-50 to change a kid's life.
Good on you for doing this, things like this is what inspire kids to play music and will never forget.
Bump with a picture of the actual bass in question. I would really love to make this happen talkbass!!
I did something a lot like this last year. A whole lot of happiness all around. This guy knew my oldest kid and reached out on Instagram. Maybe somebody you already know needs this thing. I wish you the same joy this experience brought me (and presumably the anonymous guy in this photo, too). My own little lefty is already set, but you’ll understand why I had to mention him: (He has a bass, too.)
Having lived both in large major cities, and distant rural small towns - I can assure you that there are a lot of deserving young bass players in rural areas that are consistently, always overlooked.
