Help me, Ibanez SR755 !!!

Hi folks !!!

I'm on the plan for buying my new 5-strings :). And i'm thinking about this one: Ibanez SR755 (guess it's a 2008 model, right ?) which is a very beautiful bass, light, fast neck, good electronic with 2 Bartolini's pick-ups.

But i have no ideas about Ibanez and their SR series, anyone had play that *itch before can comments some options for me.

Ibanez basses rank very high in the bang-for-buck category. Soundgears are no exception. Great necks, lightweight, versatile. The Bartolinis in those are very nice, all around pickups--not a lot of unique character, but very usable and versatile.

Think used, and you can save up to 50%. There's often a used Soundgear 5 in the classified section here.

I think I have been impressed with every Ibanez I have ever played and/or owned.

The only drawback for some with the Soundgears is the string spacing on the 5 and 6 string models. It's pretty tight. Make sure you are comfortable with this.

I think the SR series looks and feels nice but i wasnt a huge fan of the sound you get from them. I may try one again sometime but itd have to be the right one. Your best bet is to try an SR out and see if you like it. Although i dont suggest buying form them Guitar Center usually has a number of them on hand at like every store.

To the O.P., you are correct that is a SR 755 model but it was not made on 2008. It is actually a 2010 model so it should be in stores very soon if not already. I actually think Musicians Friend and Guitar Center has them already on their web sites if you wanted to order one online. For me personally, I love these basses. I have been using them forever and am planning buying some more very soon.

I own both an SR (4 string) and a BTB (5 string). The SR has a much faster neck and I like the sculpted body shape. The BTB has the MK2 barts - neck thru - and a slightly wider string spacing. The BTB is a bit easier to play slap and has a bigger sound IMHO. The SR is much better for fingerstyle and for faster work - slap is a little tougher. I like the Bart electronics on both of them, but they take some time to figure out what you like. They do not have as distinctive a sound initially like a Fender or MM, but with a little work you can get tons of tones out of the active electronics. In some ways much more versatile. They can be very bright at the high end like someone else mentioned, but I like to dial off the treble if I am not trying to cut through. The biggest thing I notice between them is the neck/string spacing. I like both, but for different reasons. You can find a smoking deal on last year's BTB's out there as well.
