help me ID my new bass!

ok, by ID i mean i know that it's a fender precision bass. but the serial number is sadly scratched off of the headstock.

but hopefully the pictures can perhaps tell a story and some sort of fender guru can let me know what they think i actually have?

i bought it off of a friend here in town... but he bought it as a pawn shop special, so the history is lost.

It's a Fender, made in Japan probably somewhere from '85 to '89. It looks like the slightly lower quality hardware package was being exported at the time, but nothing "wrong" with that per say. It was pretty common for people to scratch off the "Made in Japan" portion of headstock detail, it looks like somebody removed the entire decal and put on a 70's style decal on it...then it got scratched, or wore off somehow.

I think it's because it's a Squier model, but I could be wrong.


EDIT: Yes, it was because it was a Squier. PB-331 is Squier.

I just googled "pb-331 bass" and this thread came up about medium scale Squier basses from Japan.

Squier MIJ, I do believe. Other than the bogused up decals, looks pretty hot. A medium scale Precision would be quite cool. I dig medium and small scale basses a lot.

Nice p-bass, you are actually lucky that it is a MIJ Squier not so many of these around. Very well build, will serve you nicely!

Btw, I didn't know basses could be connected to the PC via iPod cables..... Those MIJ basses are way ahead of times!

I think they called Fender , Squier series. It is the later years when the name changed to Squier by Fender
