Help me identify this Yamaha please!

so i just traded my p bass for this beautiful Yamaha 5 string bass, but i'm unsure what model it is and what its worth. this is the only pic i could snap before my battery died. she has a matching quilted headstock and gold hardware.

it looks really similar in shape and pickups/neck etc to my BB605 but mines active so maybe it's a passive (and fancier woods) version of that. here's mine: (ignore the 3rd pickup, new eq etc)

barkerbass, looks very similar but my bridge is a bit different. if this is an ne i'll probably **** myself. i can't imagine it is though; thought those were active.

That would be a BB G5, first series.

I always say bad Yamaha's don't exist (and no one has ever proven me wrong) and so the BB G-series basses are no exception. They do their job, and they do it well

well i'm going to have to agree. she sings!! not to mention that she's gorgeous. i guess my only question now is was it a fair trade for my mexican p bass? also, is there a Yamaha club out there?

I believe these came in a both a blue quilt and the sunburst quilt. Very pretty basses.

you are correct!! not really a fan of the blue, but still very pretty! pulls off the jazz tone just as well as my brothers american jazz.

I just sold my BB-G5 just like that one, not a bad bass but check the volumes pot and see if one cut out the other plus I was getting a bad hum on the front pickup. I paid $200.00 for it about 2 years ago and sold it for $180.00..

It's the BB series that has a lithographed grain to the "wood," but these axes play nicely. Yamaha quality control kicks major booty! I have not played this series, but having played other BB axes over the years, I'm confident that you came out ahead in trading a Mexican Fender for this axe. Enjoy!

yikes! $180!! i've seen a couple last night during my search for info going for between $300-$425 for 5ers. i'm feeling good about the trade, but still not sure how long this thing will hang around. i stumbled upon the brubaker brute and fell in love with the style!! this damn gas is killing me!!!! Lol

Have you played the Brute? I wouldn't make any decisions without trying first. It's easy to make decisions based on aesthetics only to be disappointed later on...

Does the Yamaha have a good setup? Innocent question...

yes, very. nice and low with no buzzing, perfect intonation and very fast neck. strung with Fodera wooten sigs.
