A little bit of back story: a few years back, I found a guy on craigslist selling a 2011 Fender MIM Jazz 5 for $100, thought wow, what an absolute steal of a deal. Catch was it didn't have any neck bolts, was missing all but the g-string tuners, b-string saddle, and all of the screws for the pick guard. With everything else there, was still a great deal, so I took it, and with all the separate parts ordered, including Gotoh replacement tuners, came to about $200. Set it up as my player for church. Sounded and played great, but for playing a Schecter Stiletto for years prior, the weight increase of the jazz was definitely noticable. After about a month, I found out why the guy had sold it for so cheap: the neck had a very noticeable forward bow and the truss rod did little to alleviate it. Did a couple things to try and fix it, but that bow just slowly kept coming back. Eventually decided I was over trying to fix it and sold it to get some parts to build my own "jazz" bass.
Fast forward to now, when I finally got around to finishing up the new build after running into several hickups. It's got quite the mishmash of parts: Hipshot tuners, a generic Korean high-mass bridge, Semour Duncan quarter pounder pickups, a generic "Ming" preamp, a "zebrawood" neck from ebay (highly doubt it's actual zebrawood), and a 3d printed body I designed made out of PLA.
It's a bit rough around the edges, but it's got all the stuff that I wanted upgraded from the jazz: a preamp for better output and lighter weight (this thing's surprisingly lighter than the Stiletto at 7 lb 8oz). Now all that's left is to set up the action, intonation, and slap some sort of brand sticker on it. For this, I was thinking of just doing my regular AbnormalForms logo:
But, my cousin runs a sticker shop and made a custom name badge for his friend's chinese SG that has "Bingus" written in the Gibson font that looks absolutely fantastic on it. So I was thinking it would be fun to have something along the lines of some sort of silly Fender "rip-off" vibe, like having "Bender" in the Fender font. On the fence about it though, what do you guys think I should slap on the headstock? Or should I keep it blank?
