What color hardware will you be using? What color dots or blocks are on your neck? I like to coordinate the pickguard with the hardware and/or neck dots/blocks. I personally don’t care for a black pickguard with white dots and so forth. Then there are PGs that are neutral like tort (in most cases).

my point is consider what will be on the rest of the bass rather than just the body then decide what PH going to compliment the whole package. Anyway, that’s my thought process for deciding on a PG color.

Agreed, gold anodized might look nice contrasted against a darker fretboard like rosewood or Ebony, but I don't think it looks great right up against maple. Too close in color, especially with the center of the burst on the body also being in that realm. You'd need something contrasting to set them apart.

Pickup cover color is also a consideration, I'd never put white against cream for instance.

Of course hardware and pickup colors can be selected after the pickguard, at least to some extent.

Hardware will be standard chrome - the dots are aged a bit as I believe the neck is from ‘97 or thereabouts. Pickups will be the standard black plastic covers.

Personally 3 ply Black will go with anything and look good.
Too bad the pg holes are there...but (and I can't believe I am saying this but) since you said a rosewood neck then cough cough, Reddish Tort works too.

Since you're going with that pickguard which is cool you need a pair of my dice knobs I made. They are actual Vegas casino dice used at the Rio. The dots are white in real life (the incandescent lighting makes them come out yellow in the photo).

Filling and drilling new holes is not a problem, but I am concerned about contours and fit. The seller was unsure of the body’s origin so it might take Fender spec’d guards and it might not. Usually I can adjust enough to get the fit I want with aftermarket stuff, unless dimensions are way off. I had an SX body that was so off it would’ve required major surgery, as an example. So this is a little bit of a risk on my part but I’ll find out for sure Friday.
