Help me with my 5 String P-Bass project!

I'm really wanting to do a Warmoth 5 string p bass. My hangup right now is getting a pickguard that is correct. It doesn't look like there are any ready made 5 String p pickguards with a standard P pickup cutout.

Also I'd like to have bridge and pickup covers on the bass. It looks like a stock 4 string pickup cover should have plenty of clearance, however the bridge cover looks more narrow and I doubt it would work.

Any help is appreciated. I don't want to cut my own p/g, so let's get that out of the way.

Warmoth's webpage states that their 5-string P bass just uses a standard 4 string pickup. They make pick guards for everything they sell.

Can you post a link to that? I just assumed that the heel of the 5'er neck would be to wise for the 4 string pickguard.

It looks like the '72 style guard is all they offer for 5-string P, but you can email them and ask.

Yeah I should have mentioned that I want the classic P pickguard. If you look you'll see they only make the regular 5 string p body in a rear route configuration - so I'm thinking there's some reason they don't make that guard.

I just went through this with them. They told me they only sell a handful of P5's in a year, and didn't see a need for a P5 pickguard. I ended up going the custom route.

That pickguard may not fit the Warmoth body. I ended up going with the jazz style body and a P pickup. Still had to make a custom pickguard.

Ok so that clears it up a little. They just shot me down with no explanation when i asked about a top route p5. What difference in dimensions are there between the p5 and p4 bodies other than the neck pocket width?

They probably have a PDF file on their pickguard web page. Print it out and try it out.

I printed out the jazz 4 pickguard and the jazz deluxe 5 pickguard. They're not even close, the deluxe 5 is actually a lot smaller than the 4....

Thanks, but the fender pickguard has a cutout for their asymmetrical p5 pickups - won't do for what i need.

So the B string doesn't bind over the nut and tuner, please consider either a reverse headstock or some sort of a 2+3 arrangement instead of the 5-inline or 4+1. Your B strings will thank you for it.
