Sometimes you can get metal shards into the pickups casing. These shards move around from the magnetic pull and you picking it up and putting it down. This can lead to cutting of the coil wires. It has been known to happen on occasion. The reason it happens is that people continue use steel wool to clean the necks of these bass guitars. Not recommended. But who knows. It could be your amp or a guitar cable even.

My Amp is fine because I still use it on my other basses and it sounds fine same as my cable. I also never use steel wool to clean my bass neck.

Does the bass have an active bypass circuit (active/passive mode) or is it 100% active? The reason I ask is, it might be your preamp has gone bad.

It’s also possible that you have a bad wire (a break under the insulation) somewhere probably going to your output jack. I’d recommend leaving the back cover off and gently wiggling wires individually while you play to see if it changes anything with the volume and isolate it to a bad wire.

Do your pickups pass the tap test (with the bass plugged in tap on the pole pieces with a screwdriver and listen for noise through the amp)? Is it a volume/blend setup or are there separate volumes for each pickup? If it’s volume/blend, it could be a problem with either of those pots.

First of all it has no active/passive mode it has a 3 way coil tap single coil/ musicman / single coil for the mm pickup. My Pups pass the tapping with a screwdriver test. Lastly it has a blend knob it does not have seperate volumes knobs only a master volume. I have not tested the wiggling the wires around I’ll reply to you when I see the results.

Ok guys update I see the problem the reason why my bass almost has no sound is because when I plug the cable in it doesn’t turn on the battery I tested playing it with and without the battery it sounds the same so I have a theory there is a microchip in the battery box that connect to the battery clip before going to the preamp my question is is it safe to remove the microchip and just connect the battery clip wires directly to the jack and preamp???
