Help needed: Peavey Cirrus Millenium Schematic/Photo

Hi There,
I'm upgrading my Peavey Cirrus BXP 5'er to the millenium preamp (with the sweepable mid) and I need some help from you guys please.

I've read the step by step upgrade guide on here and I can see the photo showing where the power connections go but the guide is for a single pickup bass and I need a photo/ schematic to show how the pickup wires attach for a 2 pickup bass.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if anyone who has actually done this conversion has any extra knowledge regarding any problems with the switch

The wiring diagram showed exactly what I needed to know

@ MNairHead, the old preamp in my BXP had problems, so my tech has wired from scratch for me including a new switchcraft jack, better quality battery clips etc.

The pickups in the BXP are the same VFL's as the USA version and the colour codes match the diagram I got so no problems there, everything else has been replaced with new to the USA's specs.

I must say I'm blown away with these basses, when a USA Cirrus comes along at the right price I'll jump on it!

In the mean time my BXP (an early Indonesian model) stands me at less than £300 including buying the bass used, the preamp and knobs from peavey and a new set of hipshot ultralite tuners!

A quick session with a scotch pad took care of the nasty sticky poly finish on the back of the neck and I'm still £200ish up on what a cheap used Cirrus 5 costs here in the UK.

Thanks again guys I knew talkbass would have the answers!

Thanks for the heads up on the Millenium plus I'll keep an eye out for one of those too ;-) I'm well and truely bitten by the Peavey bug, it's the sound and feel I've been searching for (read spent far too much money on!) for a long time.

I can't put the bass down since the conversion, it sounds just like I'd hoped (the old preamp was completely shot, but hence I got the bass really cheap)

I must say having played a couple of USA's they are a step up again, but the BXP is by no means a bad instrument, and mine will be gigged heavily over the coming months.

The conversion has been a very simple process really, Peavey were really helpful in the UK (except for the schematic) and thanks to the numerous threads and pictures, part numbers, helpful people etc on Talkbass I got all the information required in a very short time. (if I could solder competantly I feel confident I could do it myself lol)

But for anyone else considering the conversion I have to agree with the masses.
Unless you already have a BXP lying around / or the opportunity to get a used one at an extremely cheap price like I did, the USA models are so cheap used that the costs don't add up.
And with the BXP's inconsistent build (there's a brand new Chinese Cirrus 4 in my local guitar shop that is unplayable due to neck problems straight out of the box!) the USA models are a no brainer.

I look forward to many happy hours playing, and a good few hours trawling the Internet to pick up a few more of these relatively unsung heros at bargain basement prices ;-)

Every wire you take out goes into exactly the same place in came from on the standard preamp so if that help s there ya go.

Thanks for the advice, but the import BXP's have a completely different preamp as standard, it's just a little black box wired to standard pots.
I'll post a pic when I'm at home as clarification for anyone interested? But it's nothing like the Cirrus / Millenium preamps which are mounted on pcb's (and significantly better quality!)

I'm all sorted now but it may be of use to someone?

The prices are bumping on the USA.. I get more and more requests from international folks who play BXP wanting the upgrade.

I own a few BXP (or international) when you find a great one they're fantastic.. much like Fenders and Ricks.. the import (sorry to the international folks ---no USA) are not consistent..

As a blanket opinon, you will not find anyone recommending an asian --- or denying that someone found a gem.

I had no problems at all getting the millenium preamp from Peavey UK, I e-mailed them saying i had a faulty preamp in a "Cirrus 5" and I wanted to upgrade to the millenium with the mid sweep and attached the part numbers and my contact details.
I had a reply the same day saying they had the preamp in stock and they shipped it the next day.
The control knobs had to be ordered from Peavey USA and took about 5 weeks to arrive (to be fair they said 4-6 weeks when I ordered them so they were spot on)

I'll post the UK prices as well as pics when I can get on my computer (I'm at work on my phone at the moment) the part numbers are still the same as listed in the "step by step millenium upgrade" thread and it came to around £80 for all the bits.

The only thing that had confused me was the guy who wrote the step by step guide was doing a single pickup bass so he'd removed the blend pot and the instructions just say "on a 2 pickup bass skip this part".

Not having seen an American Cirrus' standard wiring I had no reference point to swap the wires one by one, and because Peavey don't supply a wiring diagram with the preamp I had no idea where to attach the 6 pickup wires. With 2 of them being power feeds my tech was understandably not happy to run the risk of frying the new board or damaging the pickups by guessing.

Once I'd got the parts and wiring diagram the swap only took my tech about as long as it took me to make a cup of coffee and smoke a cigarette! :-)
The hole for the mid control had to be reamed out slightly then it all dropped straight in.
It actually took longer to unhook all the messy Indonesian wiring than install the new stuff.

As far as the millenium basses go, I've been having a look and we've got loads of Millenium BXP AC's for dirt cheap but I can't find any of the USA Millenium plus's (yet!) The search will continue :-)
