Help: new GK head & rack content

This might belong in Effects (mods feel free to move if need be) but I thought I would post here because of the new GK1001RB-II I'm getting in the next few weeks.

First, I'm a rack noob. As I said I will be getting the GK1001RB-II head soon and it's the first rack head I have ever had.

So, I need rack suggestions, size, make, model, etc.

I know I want to get a good (bang for buck) rack tuner and lighted power conditioner and need suggestions for those two items as well.

Any other cool suggestions or finds you all have made with rack gear would be great to know about too.

I've got my 1001 racked with a Korg DTR1000. If you really need to have a racked tuner, get this one. I would check ebay or the used market. The power conditioner isn't worth it IMO, unless you're planning on plugging in a bunch of other stuff in the same outlet or power strip.

Take a look at the "Rigs of Doom" thread to get an idea as to the options available to you. Personally, what you're planning is exactly what I'm looking to purchase within the next couple of months, and thats the GK1001RBII, Korg DTR1000 tuner with a furman PL-8 conditioner. Just trying to keep things simple.

I have Gator 4U and 3U racks. I have my 1001RB-II mounted in the 4U rack along with a DTR2000 Korg Tuner and a Furman M-8L8 power conditioner. They are mounted so that the slot above my GK is open.

From threads I have read on the subject most people do not think it is a big deal to have something racked right above your 1001RB-II. The GK manual however says to leave the top open for cooling. I tend to err on the side of caution and leave an opening above my 1001.

Most pedal tuners I have seen are no where near as accurate or easy to use as the Korg tuners. Yes the Korgs cost a little more but IMO they are well worth it.

To each his own opinion but as far as the power conditioner is concerned, why would you not want to add something that for less than $100.00 US (from the prices I have seen) protects your equipment from power spikes, eliminates hum from other electronic sources and gives you a spot to plug in any other pedals etc you might have? Our band was doing a bit of studio work this past weekend and the studio owners could have kissed me when I told them that I had a power conditioner. Bass needs a lot of power and the cleaner the better. Try plugging into an outlet at a club without a conditioner when they have their air conditoners, lights etc all running through the same wiring and see how much hum and hiss you get. No a power conditoner is not a fancy effect but I don't think you can go wrong getting one.

Very few of the cheaper ones are actual conditioners, most of them are just over glorified surge protectors :p

remember that the gk has the air vent on top and you need some clarance to let the air flow, so dont forget to leave at least 1 rack space above the amp, check the skb cases, they are durable and cheap, like around 90 bucks for a 4-5 spaces, and get the shallow version of the rack, the amp, tuner and the power conditioner are about the same size of the amp so you dont need a huge rack case

I agree that in general lower priced equipment is lower priced for a reason so all I can go by is my experience.

Before I put in my Furman, my rig would hiss like crazy, there were snap crackle and pops when different lights, air conditioners etc would power on/off. Since I added the Furman all of that stuff is gone. Surge protector alone is worth something. So for me the Furman has brought me some piece of mind for very little money.

I would stay AWAY from anything made by Furman. They are complete garbage. You might as well go to staples and buy a $3 powerstrip to put in your rack because thats all that it is.
IF anything were to happen while you have your rig running through a Furman you have no protection at all.
Depending on how much you want to spend you should look into a SurgeX or something similar that does not rely on MOV’s for protection.

Right now I have a GK 700Rb II with an empty space above it and a Fender rack tuner.

Everyone raves about the Korg but the Fender is really good. Plus it is great for showing off. If you don't use it for a few minutes, it does a Knight Rider type sweep from left to right.

Functional and flashy

I've got a 4-space Gator Powered Rolling Rack, with a 2001RB and a Korg DTR-1000.

It's fairly basic, but I've got my three needs covered - an overdrive channel, a clean channel, and a tuner. And that's not even considering my pedalboard! :smug:

Some people also include a rackmount compressor (if they're not using a compressor pedal), and sometimes a rackmount effect, but you've got the basic needs covered by the amp, tuner, and power conditioner alone.

I have a Gator 4 space shallow depth rack, with my Gk Backline 600 on the Bottom, then skip the next space above for ventilation, then my Shure wireless on the top spot. I have a small Yamaha tuner on a short cord that can sit on my 212 cab in front of my rack( therefore no need for a rackmount tuner) and I use a 14 gauge 2 way , 9' extension cord to go from my head and wireless ,to the back of our PA rack that has the power conditioner in it.
