Help on building my first stack

I've always heard that everything from GK is amazing, except for the Backline series. Apparently there are people here that disagree, so now I'm a bit torn on the subject.

The GK Backline 600 head that I have is amazing. There is no sacrifice in tone, features, or loudness for the $200 used I paid for it. They also have a great reputation for reliability. The GK 400 I bought used is probably 15 years old and it works great, although it's not the head the 600 is.

However, I wouldn't trust theirs or anyone's low-end cabinets. That's why I recommended Avatar. They put together great cabs using top-grade USA-made Eminence drivers for a very competitive price. Plus Dave is great to work with. You can't go wrong.

Ok, I didn't want to start a new thread and take up more space, so I'm going to ask one more (probably very stupid) question here.

Say I have a Peavey Tour 450 head and and Ashdown MAG 410 cab. They both are 450 watts, so I would assume that that's a good match. But what if I had the GK 600 that only has 300 watts? Is a head that has less wattage then the cab bad? Or how about the opposite; if I had a Peavey Tour 700 (700 watts) is that bad for the cab since it has more "power" than the cab? Also, I know that the wattage is cut in half if a 4 ohm head is only handling an 8 ohm cab, so is that a problem too?

Yes, this all sounds very noobish of me, but I'm still just a bit confused on the matter. I'm sure that having different watts wouldn't harm either the cab or the head, but would it affect how much power I'm getting out of the whole stack?

Your ears will tell you when to turn down. If you ended up going with the tour 700, you would only get 500 watts at 8 ohms, 700 at 4 ohms. You will be able to tell when you need to turn the volume down when the speakers start to fart out.
