Help! P-BASS can't compete with Heavy Keyboards

100% agreed. Dude's going to step on the bass no matter what equipment you play. If it were me, and it's a paying gig and you could use the money, I would just do the best you can and hope you don't snap one day and kill him.

lol @ "you know, you're right, you're fired" LOL....that was funny. Problem is he is a friend, but we do not see eye to eye alot in music...it is fun to play in his band otherwise. Some interesting tunes and original music and about 30% of the tunes I can cut through {unless I use my SX and he doesn't matter anymore :-)

been there , and the only solution is to have a heart to heart with the guy , and explain to him
that he seems to be a little heavy on the left hand keys ... and would he mind letting up just a little ?

if the answer is " FORGET IT " , then i would just go ahead and smash his left hand with your P-Bass ....

I did a couple of Blues gigs with a Keyboard player who was way too heavy with his left hand. One audition/rearsal,three gigs. The Keys player was not catching alot of the changes in the songs either,it was bad, but they were paying gigs and I need the money. I auditioned with a roundwound strung Fender Precision and could tell it was not going to work. For the gigs I used a flatwound stung Fender Precision and I cranked my mids,brought up the bass and played a little louder than I normally would. At some points I went over to him and yelled the changes. I was so glad when it was over, and could not imagine ever having to play with somebody like that in a perminent band situation. I would sit down and have a talk with your keyboard player and hope he understands and respects your sonic space,if not I would walk if I where you. Good luck

Good strategy... the only problem will come when that "side project" starts getting offered gigs on dates that conflict with this other thing... and may not pay as well.
