Help Please, Looking For Cables

Hello all. I'm fairly new to the gig set up and wondered if anybody could advise me on the best bass cables available?

I've tried to buy from Monster in the past, but the only website I could find which would ship to the UK has robbed me and not sent the item.

I'm looking at some Planet Waves cables which sound quite impressive but are there any good quality alternatives?

One other thing. To connect two amplifiers together, am I looking for a jack-to-jack lead or otherwise? The two amplifiers are: Ashdown ABM 410t and Ashdown MAG C115-300 Pre Amp Combo.

Thanks.

Do you mean connect an extension speaker to your combo? To do that you need a Speaker cable (not just a normal Jack to Jack instrument lead). You can get them in most music stores, but avoid the cheap ones, i got one in Sound Control, and its not very good (very thin!, and thats not good for a speaker cable!)

Look for Koltz cables, they are pretty readily availible over here and are very good, also, the ones i quite like using and are cheap, are the Venom Gold series cables :) (the venoms are only instrument cables)

In my opinion, Monster Cables and to a lesser extent the Planet Waves ones, are just rip offs!

If you are any good with a soldering iron you could always make your own instrument or speaker cables :)

Are you only looking for a cable for connecting your combo to your other cabinet? or are you looking for one going from your bass to your combo aswell?

Guitar to amplifier, you'd use an instrument cable:

Those are pretty much the same cables, just one has an angled jack, which might be better suited depending on the jack location/personal preference for the bass.

I cant find any decent speaker cables on ebay at the minute tho (but not had a good look). You can pick them up in any music store really, just make sure its a Speaker cable, and try to get one thats thicker than a usual instrument cable.

+1 for venom cables they are sweet. i use the xlr's for my PA i'm getting some jacks when i start a new band (till then i got my planetwaves).

i dont need speaker cables as yet so i cant say on that one.

but planetwaves as good as they are 'can' unthread you jack sockets with the spring loaded jack sleeve, mine has done it to my paisley P and lesser extent to my jaguar bass (just needed tightening tho)

I switched to George L's a year ago or so and I swear by them.No soldering requires-just need a small screwdriver. You can buy them already made or buy the ends and cable and do it yourself.

Ive used them, but i just bought some cable as i already had some plain old jacks here, so i soldered them in (better connection that way anyways).

They are ok, i got the thinner ones tho, and it just doesnt feel right having something that small as a lead, but im sure they will last fine :)

(I still prefer the venom Golds personally tho)

with cables you get what you payfor

Well thats a lie and a half isnt it :p

I got my venom golds for £3 (cheap offer at the time), and i prefer them over my Koltz cables which cost about £20. And monster cables are just a marketing scam :p

Also, i got speaker cables from Bayoucables.com, which were pretty damned cheap and amazing quality! Ive also gone into the habit of making my own speaker cables too from 12 and 16AWG hi-fi style speaker wire.
