Help! Replacement speakers for 2x10?

OK so I need a quick stop gap solution until I can make an informed decision about new cabs.

In the meantime, I have a 2x10, it's a Hartke 2100 200w 4ohm (yes that's correct!) cab.

After too much abuse I blew one of the speakers.

It's just for stage volume as I go thru the PA for FOH, and I need to do something quick to get thru the next month or so of gigs.

Is there any chance of getting replacement speakers to make this a more powerful cab?

I'm thinking I'd like to put some Neos in there, but if I have to go with standard speakers that's ok.

What could I get that I could power this cab properly with either a 500w 4ohm head or a 350w 4ohm head?

I wouldn't rule out 2 16ohm speakers if this would make it a 8 ohm cab? right now it's wired from the board behind the input jack individually to each speaker, and I'd rather not get into any rewiring etc.

thx.. I'm really not interested in getting proper replacements, I really just need to get something delivered this week, I have 3 gigs next weekend and I'm willing to spend a couple of hundred to get by until I decide what I'm going to spend the bigs bucks on.

and I have both Hartke LH500 and HA3500 available as amps.

Can you tell by this if the speakers would be a match? I researched all I could but I don't know how to make that determination. What is the worst that could happen if the speakers aren't the best match for the cab? again it's just for stage volume not FOH. thanks

That cab is really big for a 2x10. The chances of the drivers you select NOT farting out with too much power are slim to none, I'd think. If you MUST try it though, use beach audio instead of MF. Better customer service, much better prices.

Edit. The Basslite S2010's would be as likely to work as anything....

thanks jaco who, this is what I was looking for. I like the sound (and price!) of the S2010s. Just to be sure, throwing 500w @ 4ohms will be ok with those? It says the speakers are 150w with 300w maximum power. I'm not clear on how that works, would I end up with a 600w 4ohm cab with 2 of these or a 300w? thx again..

Yeah, "throwing 500 watts" into that cab probably will NOT be OK, the wattage rating of the drivers means little, particularly in a box that big.

It's a little bit like loading them in an open back guitar cab, sort of a simplistic analogy, but in a smaller box, the "suspension" of the box would keep the speakers from reaching their maximum extension better than a bigger box will. It wouldn't likely be much worse than the 200 watt Hartke rating, though. Good luck.

I'd just get the blown driver re-coned, and start shopping for a better cab. Don't waste money on drivers that weren't designed to work in that box. Harke replacements are really the best bet, if you insist on replacing them, but a re-cone will be cheaper, and sound better.

Well, how much money do you want to throw at it, you know? There are probably some pricier (much) B&C's with enough Xmax to accept more power, or you could put some 4Ω Eminence BP102's in it and wire them in series, that way you would limit the wattage to what an 8Ω load would see.

If you could enlarge the openings to fit some 12" kappalites then you'd really have something. That looks iffy, though. ha. I'll stop rambling now.....

I'm sure you can find a replacement driver from Eminence that would match up to the cab's internal volume, but then you have to think about the cab's tuning as well.

I did some quick, creative calculations and came up with a gross internal volume of 1.69 cu. ft. for the bottom half, and 1.59 cu. ft. for the top. Yes, this is outside the recommended size for a neo Deltalite II 2510, but the BP102 is good up to 4 cu. ft., and the Basslite CA 2010 up to 2'.

You would really need to know the exact port dimensions to model these in Win ISD, but armed with all the important specs, it can be done.

I think you will be happier in the log run.

It really is a crapshoot slapping new drivers into a box. Not only do you have to contend with tuning the box to work well with the driver (assuming it's possible) but also there's a wide variety of low mid to mid voicings and how it works in context of the cabinet as a complete system is also a major performance concern IMO.
