Help Required

I have been playing bass for five months albeit on a borrowed one from a friend, a Yamaha BB414.
My problem is this, the music I really like is R&B,Jazz Funk, Soul, bass driven 70s and 80s Disco pop and I also Like rock music with some of the funkier basslines- RHCP and RATM.
I need to buy a bass but I dont know whether to buy a 4 or 5 string.
I would like to start transcibing soon as I realize its an important part of my musicl development.
Incognito, Stuart Zender and some of the modern Jazz funk and R&B use 4&5 string, but of course Bernard Edwards, Robin Duhe, Vernon White etc didn't.
Should I continue learnning on which, a 4 or 5 string?

It's all a matter of preference, try a bunch of 4s, 5s and 6s and when you find one you like, get it and learn on that. It honestly doesn't matter what you learn on, as long as you learn.
