Help! Stolen Sadowsky...

Already mentioned above briefly but if that bass has a Brazilian board on it, I'd guess that would fall under the "Lacey act". This is a big deal as far as us exports are concerned. The US or Can. govt may have confiscated it as contraband. As a builder I can say that they are rabid about this right now. Certain species of rosewoods need "C.I.T.I.E.S" paperwork to clear customs.
Call sadowski with that serial to find the origin and age of their Brazilian supply.

If you funded your PayPal payment with a credit card call them and reverse the charge.

PayPal doesn't like this when you do it, but because the way your credit card protects you you will get your money back and PayPal can't do anything about it. When you use a credit card to buy something that's shipped to you and it doesn't arrive to you, you will get your money back.

The only problem may be the amount of time since the transaction may be beyond your time to protest a charge.

Next time think about using FedEx and if you include the correct Harmonizer code with a commercial bill of sale, you won't pay any duty and you won't have any hassles. I've done it several times shipping from Canada and also shipping to Canada. Costs more but it's worth it, it gets through customs quickly, it's legal and you can sleep at night.

Was it your idea to undervalue it or the sellers? You may very well be getting scammed, him knowing full well you're not gonna travel from Toronto to AZ (and if you did, he'd just say he sent it.) Very odd he couldnt give you tracking numbers, if he truly DID send it he could go back to the place he dropped it off and retrieve the tracking number. I call BS on the seller, but you may be SOL since you broke eBay rules and they washed their hands of the incident.

This... Every time I send anything over $100 I get it insured.. for just such incidents.. and in all my time using the USPS I have only had one incident where the item took longer to get to me and the tracking was filed improperly so there was no record of the whereabouts of the item, but it did get to me eventually. Considering the item and it's value the seller should have done that .. I'm thinking the seller is flat out lying. Especially since the sale was not done here.. not that TBers are immune from being thieves.. but I have yet to meet anything but stand up people here... and I would buy used from here before I went anywhere else other than a store or a pawn shop.

That's a bummer.. I hope you get it soon but after two months ...

I only use usps for lower value items as you cannot insure the item for its full value. And the "tracking" system is not even close to what fedex has in place. Sorry but a hard lesson learned. Hope it was just lost in the system and it shows up one day.

You absolutely can insure a package for it's full value with the USPS.

Um hm...

I don't buy it. I have received basses in Canada sent via USPS. Yes sometimes things can get confusing (tracking it once it gets to Canada) because the two systems somehow don't see eye to eye but he should have received a tracking number. Try and get your money back because it looks like the seller pulled a fast one. Ask the seller to send you a scan of the receipt that he got when he shipped it. Bet you he lost it.....

The customs form is the tracking number. And in this case, the CP forms are the better one because these are for higher value, heavier, and insurable packages. The CP forms even going to Canada are considered "air shipments". If the seller mailed the bass with this customs form number, then that same number will also be printed on his cash register receipt from the post office. So if he really paid to ship it, your proof is that cashier receipt. Get a copy of it.
You can then call the US office for international shipments and report it lost. It will take them a couple of weeks to research the shipping manifests that left that city that day/week. The office gets in touch with the receiving customs office to search for it.
My workplace ships international daily, and I've also had a couple of basses go missing once. So I've spent some time with the international office getting things back, and they've all made it back eventually.
The key word here is call! No don't email, that will get you nowhere.

I just received a package sent USPS over a week late. It was sent with tracking but it never showed anything except the blurb about shipper electronically notifying the PO a package would be forthcoming.

The entire time it was in transit tracking never updated, then the day I got notice I had a package to pick up at the counter, tracking updated, but only to show the package was scanned in at the local distribution center, then sent (and received) to my local branch.

Something to keep in mind when using USPS, tracking, and buying your postage on line. If you don't take your package to the counter and make a point to have the PO minion scan the label, your package won't be tracked. If you dump it in a bin or drop it off, chances are good it won't get scanned.

Here's the number to the International Inquiry Center: 1-800-222-1811

You will be asked to provide:
Customs form number (tracking)
names and addresses, of both mailer and receiver
mailing date (cash register receipt)

You have up to six months from mailing date to file a loss claim.
