I recently purchased a 1970s Ampeg V4B off Reverb and quickly discovered that it has an issue(s).
When I play, sometimes after an hour, sometimes after 15 minutes, sometimes only 5 minutes, the volume will completely cut out. Sometimes it’s proceeded by a “crackling” sound, other times it just cuts out. When it does cut out, sometimes if I adjust the volume knob it comes back to life, other times I have to flip the standby switch. Occasionally, I can even fix it by applying pressure with my hand on the faceplate to the right of the bass knob! None of these “solutions” last long though.
My next door neighbor is a guitar tech for a famous band and he looked at it but couldn’t diagnose the problem. He replaced one of the preamp tubes, but it didn’t solve the problem. Does anyone know what is wrong with my amp?
