Help with a Genz Benz shuttle combo amp

Hello talk bass experts.

I have a question on a Genz Benz 6.0 shuttle with a 12-in speaker combination.

Don't ask how this happened as it is very embarrassing but the amplifier / speaker combination came crashing to the floor face first a couple of weeks ago.

It is still operating but seems to have lost some of its upper end.

I am wondering if maybe I need to check to see if the preamp tube has broken or shifted.

If not maybe I did something else to it

The research that I have done indicates that the preamp gives it a more warm tone which means that it does not affect the upper end as much.

I am wondering if it has something to do with the amp itself or maybe the change in humidity since things have changed quite a bit around the Chicago land area lately.

If you were going to troubleshoot this, what would be the first thing you would check?

I love the amp and it does exactly everything I wanted to do. It just seems to have lost some of that upper timbre that I like.

First step of troubleshooting? Taking it to the tech.

I'd take advantage of the factory service program. If the head was attached to the cab and didn't impact on the knobs it may be entirely covered by the standard service fee. Andy (Agedhorse) can more effectively walk you through assessing the cab than we can.

Are you sure this is not a cabinet issue with the tweeter and or crossover? If you feel you've lost some top end, can you confirm the tweeter is working?

Without the ability to verify the fault as suggested in post #5, you need to follow the advice in post #6.

No....foot got hooked on my cord and I pulled it off my lower cab.... Just embarrassing

Not sure how to best check that

Plug in a set of headphones and see if the sound in the headphones is normal.

If so, the amp is probably fine and the issue is with the tweeter in the cabinet.
If it's the cabinet, likely guesses are a wire that came unhooked or a tweeter protection fuse came dislodged.

Andy might correct me here, but I feel like the Mesa Subway line is probably what the future of the Genz Benz bass amp line would have looked like by now.

Possibly.

There were things we wanted to do during our few years under Fender, but understandably Fender was all about Fender and that legacy. Fender was at that time stuck in its own legacy, and gun shy due to their experience with SWR.

Jeff went one direction with the Magellan and Kinetix, I went a different Mesa inspired direction with the Subway line and Fender went their direction with the new Rumble and Bassman lines.

All three share some of the same "genetic" origins of our very successful Shuttle and Streamliner amps/cabinets, yet ended in very different yet successful places.
