Help with a kustom Groove bass head

I've been using the groove bass head (1200) for a few years now and recently bought a dbx266xl compressor to help even out my sound. I got a nice sound through the input of the amp but i'd rather run it through the effects loop, the problem herein lies. For whatever reason i lose about 3/4 of my volume as soon as i use the effects loop, the only thing i can think of is using a preamp in the loop to boost the output but can't experiment with that until Sunday when i am back in the practice space, does anyone know why i'm losing the volume in the first place?

yea its become a massive problem because the only way to get near enough power with the loop is to crank the gain and volume while using the solo channel and it still wasnt loud enough... I'm gonna experiment with the pre-amp tomorrow.

Yea i tried all of it, the compressor sounds great running through the input, i'm thinking about putting the pre-amp after the compressor in the chain so the signal is running through the pre-amp already compressed, so it isn't just more compressed singal, but if that doesn't work i'll simply have to just run through the input and have a crap load of wires running around my rack as opposed to a nice neat setup.
