Hi, I just got an Azola bug bass II a couple weeks ago. It looks beautiful but the eq on the bass is either very low or high nasally mids. Does any one have an idea how to get a punchy round tone from this bass?

I have Corelli stings on it and have been using either the GK 800 and 1001 with a 2 x 12 avatar cab or GK Neo 112.

I had a bugbass 2 before and now I have an NS WAV4. They are pretty much the same in that they are simply piezo bass, without magnetic pickups, its very hard to get the punch you are looking for. I use an XOTIC Bass pedal preamp, similar to the Sadowsky and Aguilar outboard preamp pedals. This helps to add warmth and gain to the piezo signal. Then I send that to a Fishman Prefix Platinum Pro Bass Preamp for Graphic Eq and Depth plus compression and phase. Finally, I run the signal through my POD X3 for reverb and compression and tuning and using both the Neve 1073 in combination with the Ampeg B-15 . It still isnt perfect, but without a magnetic pickup, I think its about as close as you can get. I too would like to hear how everyone else is working with these piezo equipped uprights.

Funny because I had a NS Bass and I liked the sound better than the Azola but felt the ergonomics with the stand/s and all were just awful. I hear that Aguilar is coming out with a preamp with a mid setting so I'm going to wait for that. Also plan to add a Fishman Platinum soon. Do you think all the processing will diminish the sound?
