Help with choosing an amp

I am thinking about taking advantage of Black Friday savings and picking up an amp. I currently have a Carvin pb100 combo that I am less than thrilled with. I want something that will sound good at lower volumes for home practice (I'm not talking apartment quiet, just not stadium loud), yet be versatile enough to be able to jam with drums and two other guitars in a smaller, intimate type of setting. I want to avoid having to buy more than once (although I know that is contrary to the GAS). I am also around a $600 budget. I would buy used, except I am somewhat removed from a bustling urban center with lots of gear for sale. There is an evil Guitar Center nearby though. I was looking at either the:

Am I looking in the right direction? Are there better alternatives that will suit my wants/needs and agree with my wallet? Is there a general rule that an amp needs to be pushed so hard to achieve its optimal tone? Thanks for the help.
