Help with my first explorer project!

Summer has finally arrived, exams are past and vacations = plenty of free time so I've decided to start my first bass project.
I want to make an extreme type of body, not the usual P-Bass/Jazz Bass, I have already 2 P-Basses so no need for more.
Can anyone help me, for sending/recommenting me some plans or measurements?
I want plans for either explorer type basses (like Gibson Explorer/ Aria Pro II ZZB) or V basses.
Any help is accepted.

Exploder and vag1na shapes are a dime a dozen, though pecker and jack-ace designs are on the nickel. Do a little homework and be "original." It's easier than you aren't thinking.

+1, be original.

Take a piece of cardboard and lay Your P on it. Trace the outline lightly and the nut and the bridge saddle locations with more ink.

Then just be creative .

As for the neck, do you suggest me to use an older one, or design one by my own? Is it hard?

I'm not a native speaker, but "be creative and don't go with the flow" was what I did read.

George, making a neck isn't too hard, but does involve much more precision and less tolerance for error than a body.

For a first project, crafting the body and using a factory made neck is always my suggestion.

That's what I thought too guys.
So I'm gonna find a factory neck that fits to me and go on with the body by my own. I've got a few ideas about the shape of the body. Maybe I'll post some pics when it's done.

One more question. When you finish the whole body, then what colors do you use for it? I mean what's the best brand?
And then after I finish the painting what else should I use?
Any kind of oil or something?
