Help with pedal setup

Ah yes, that could be useful, and looks similar to the harley benton dual loop switcher. I'm also considering the Radial Engineering Tonebone Bigshot EFX which is the same price, and someone above mentioned being very pleased with one of their similar pedals. So not sure yet.

These are NOT THE SAME as the LS-2. They're both OK as a dual loop switcher, but they don't have near the functionality of the LS-2. Make sure you fully understand the differences before buying.

Yeah, that's much like what I'm trying to do, but I'm going to send both of the signal paths to the amp's speaker (with the FX return), just so I have the option to play with that speaker when I'm not recording. I made a quick diagram :

Guys, wouldn't this do what he wants if he just removes the second ABY and goes directly from the WTDI output to the amp's Effects Return (nothing in Effects Send)?

They might have some differences, but for my purposes I think either would do fine, right? I just need to send a signal one way or the other, and then merge them again to one output (even though I probably don't want A+B at the same time).
The LS-2 has two volume controls which could be useful if I decided to try blending the signal. Any other significant differences?
On a different note, I also always wanted to experiment with splitting my channel into two differently eq'ed channels and apply different effects on them (I do stuff like that in Reason all the time), looks like I could do that with this pedal and two eq boxes, if it doesn't lead to phase issues.

the WTDI is very odd for gain.. it can jump from next to nothing to full on clipping. In my experience, I'd not recomend it

Hmm, strange, might be an issue with your pedal?

I think that my effect return wouldn't be used if there's nothing in the send. I think the fx loop only gets activated when there's something in the send.

IMO, switching from one loop to another is the best accomplished with an LS-2. The others are series loops, meaning the signal path would be bass> looper > a out to amp in > amp send to a in > b out to wtdi in > wtdi out > b in > effects return.

This can work, but you'll have to hit the switches two at a time to perform the swap and series loops is all it does. You can use it, but I would strongly recommend an LS2. The two eq curves sounds like a parallel application the way you describe and you can't do that with the Big Shot or the HB.

Regarding the suggestion to run directly to your effects return, it will work, but then anything going to the amps pre amp will get muted.

From Line6.com on using the POD as an external preamp (bypass internal preamp):

"2) If your amplifier has an effects loop you can use your POD unit as the main Pre amp, using only the power amp section of your amplifier by plugging into the "effects return". Below is the routing for this:

Guitar-> POD In - POD Out -> Amp FX Return."

Q #2

Your particular amp may only recognize an effects chain if something is plugged into Send, but this seems to be pretty common so I would give it a try.

Upon further research, I'm sticking to my guns with this answer. Its also a one-stomp switch (leave the WTDI on all the time). Either way, please post back once you have figured out the solution. Thanks, D

Right, having to hit the two switches did occur to me, but wouldn't be a problem for my situation. I will however probably go for the Boss pedal, because the volume controls alone could be useful for keeping the volume of the two loops consistent (ish).
I prefer the look of the other pedal, but that shouldn't be a determining factor :)
Thanks!

Thanks for the research, and I will make sure to test this too. I'm currently still working out the details of my order, but will probably have my new toys some time next week, and I will report my findings.

My plans have been a little delayed because deciding what to order took a while, but I'm expecting the following things tomorrow or the day after :

- Eden WTDI
- Darkglass Microtubes Vintage Bass Overdrive
- Boss LS-2
- Ibanez SR1800-NTF
- Markbass MB Mini Distortion
- EHX Black Finger
- HB Powerplant
- Bunch of cables

And a bunch of guitar stuff - I don't play the guitar, and I want to learn, and I want to be able to record guitar players form my home studio.
- Harley Benton ST-70 Rosewood Deluxe
- Hughes&Kettner Tubemeister 18 Head NOS
- Mooer Jellow Comp
- Mooer Trelicopter
- Joyo Iron Man AC.Tone
- Mooer Shim Verb
- EHX Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi

Couldn't really stop myself from adding stuff to my basket - but I had a great month financially, so I could afford to treat myself :)

Phase is a total non issue with series effects and no blending, as you are describing.

Your dual aby setup is ingenious.

For those that don't get it, the fx loop of the amp is always engaged and the selector switches between passing through and taking the output of the wtdi. No getting around using the aby.

Aside from possible grounding problems you might get some bonanza popping from the aby switching.

Got the gear, and the set up works a treat. However, I much prefer the sound the Eden gives me over what my amp's peamp produces, so I doubt I'll be switching much. The WTDI sounds much crisper, while still having a good low end. My amp does have a sub harmonizer (sounds like an octaver to me) so I might use the switch to add that sound to my arsenal.

I'm still figuring out how to get the most out of my new gear, here's a picture (extreme cable clutter, I'm using my desk as a temp pedalboard so I can more easily tweak stuff) :
