Help with pedals, im new!

I'm new to the world of bass pedals and im sure someone out there knows their stuff. what are some of the pedals every bassist should own? what are you favorites? any you wished you owned? Thanks!

There's a lot of people here who know their stuff. There are no specific pedals that every bassist should own, it's all a matter of taste.
Can you be more specific? What sort of sound are you looking for? Old school? Synthy? Funk? Jazz? New Wave? Death Metal?
Maybe you should check out the effects sound clip data base in the wiki.
I use a BJFE Blueberry(overdrive), Maxon CP9 pro(compressor), Korg Pitchblack(tuner), and a Hardwire DL-8(delay/looper). One of these days I should be receiving an EHX Nano Stone(phaser) and some day I want to get a 3 Leaf Audio Groove Regulator (envelope filter) and a Boss DD-20 (real fancy delay).

Hello everyone and Happy Easter! You will have to excuse my demeanor, I have been gorging on my kids' jelly beans while we get ready for church. I had a Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus once, it got stolen and I am shopping Ebay for another one. I really liked the sound of it, and would recommend it as a first pedal effect. Anyways, I am interested to see what effects other people recommend, too.

Maybe look into a delay of some sort? Also maybe a phaser or flanger of some sort. Also looking into a Digitech Bass Synth Wah wouldn't be a bad idea. It can do a few things and I'm sure one of them would be up your alley.

Pino uses an octave device for a low octave, I think I've heard he uses a Boss OC-2. He also uses chorus.

Tough to answer properly without knowing what type of music you play.

Also, are you looking for generic suggestion (i.e.: fuzz, filters, etc...) or specifics (Boss Chorus CEB-3, SansAmp VT Bass).

Happy easter, dude...sorry to hear about your danelectro cool cat chorus being stolen. if you like that danelectro chorus sound, I would recommend the danelectro fab chorus. it costs 15 dollars and it sounds phenomenal on bass. I also would recommend the new danelectro cool cat chorus pedal. the new one costs 50 dollars, has an amazing sound and it only runs 9-volt battery. you can purchase them on any online music store.

Preamp/DI, Fuzz/OD/Distortion, Chorus, EQ, Wah

Just starting out? Then I'll say

1. Boss chorus and
2.MXR Phase 90 for sure.
Both are reasonable non-boutique prices and good as anything out there.

For distortion and overdrive you'll have to experiment for yourself. Just do not get anything muddy. And don't fall for the Overdrive IS Distortion. They are and should be completely different pedals that take you to different destinations. But both are great to have in your sonic arsenal.

A good reverb pedal is a must also IMO.

Boss Pedals, like the ODB-3 are good, pair it with a octave pedal and you got fuzz!!

IMHO, there is one pedal that every pedal user should have: a good tuner. You can't go wrong with the Korg Pitchblack.

After that, its totally subjective as to what sound you want and then limited by budget as to build quality and reliabilty.

If possible, I recommend that you take your bass down to your local GC (or whatever) and try out a variety of bass pedal types (fuzz, overdrive, octaver, flanger, chorus)

Note that most bass players get a distortion (fuzz, overdrive) pedal first and a lot get an octaver second. This order is not written in stone.
