Double Bass Help with Rosin sound

Has anyone else tried your bass with their bow to eliminate the strings?

But it sounds a bit like way too much rosin then.

So, first thing to try is just playing a lot and letting the rosin wear out of the bow; eventually you may well find it starts to grip properly. If not, and it really starts to skate and do nothing, then you've got it all out and you can try another kind of rosin. Almost anything else will be harder and less melty than Pops, and should give a quite different kind of grip.

When I was in high school, we used Pop's rosin. Probably way too much of it.... we would warm it up so it would get fairly sticky after running the bow across it. It it wasn't warmed up enough, it would definitely sound hollow and have no traction.
