Help with Samba/Cuban music type beat

Hello,

I've recently started to learn how to arrange and record drum tracks to jam along and improvise along to, I've got the general idea of a basic drum kit, now I wish to incorporate more of a Samba/Cuban music type drum/percussion beat to my tracks. (with maracas/bongos/handclaps type stuff) Anyone know any good song with this sort of beat it in that I can replicate? I like the Weather Report-y stuff Manolo Badrena came up with, anyone know anything similar?

Well, to begin with, Samba is Brazilian, and is much different than Cuban/Afro-Cuban rhythms. The world of latin rhythms is vast.

If you really want to check out a latin rhythm section that tears it up, listen to just about anything by Tito Puente. That's a good place to start.

second the tito puente. even though chicha isn't samba or cuban, i like how these guys integrate everything

you mention maracas, bongos and claps. these all fill the high end of the percussion spectrum, but where are your lows? congas? atabaque? surdo? timbales for the fills?
