but honestly I think they do the worst cover versions of any major band I've ever heard. Their Helter Skelter was awful but then again I thought their "All Along the Watchtower", "Beat on the Brat", "People Get Ready" and especially "Fortunate Son" version were all terrible. YMMV.

I despise U2 from the bottom of my heart, but even without that bias, their cover of Beat on the Brat is without a doubt the worst cover I have ever heard.

As for Helter Skelter, I have always really liked Motleys version. Not as much as the original, but Cries version still had life to it.

That's a good version with some great bass but I still prefer The Beatles. I just don't think their versions of anything they wrote can be improved on ever.

I've heard a cover of across the universe before. I can't remember who did it but it was really nice. A chick sang it and it was really slow. I also like the cover Ben Harper did of strawberry fields forever. Very cool IMO. But I have to agree with you overall jimmy, it's extremely hard for anyone to do a good to great cover of a Beatles tune. The Beatles are just too damn good and they just had a way of producing and writing awesome songs. George Martin helped in the later years, but IMO, no band since has accomplished quite what they did on many levels. It had a lot to do with the time period too though. But still.....

Oh bud, I remember seeing that in theaters when it came out.

Beatles version is the best, but for covers I'd go with Benatar.
