That's a good version with some great bass but I still prefer The Beatles. I just don't think their versions of anything they wrote can be improved on ever.

I mean the original of course.
But the Siouxie version is very cool.
Kind of like Devo's take on Satisfaction (which I like better than the original) it's their own take on it, as opposed to attempting to cover it.

Agreed most covers of their songs just don't do the original justice.

And she could play, and sing, and write. Seen them live three times. First time she was using a Bassman if I remember right, after that an Acoustic 370 that sounded like thunder.

The Hollyridge Strings were great, no doubt. Not easy to turn Beatles songs into schmaltz, with the exception of a couple of Paul's less than stellar moments

The Beatles did the only version worth talking about.
If you've ever heard the isolated bass, Lennon sounds pretty bad on it, even out of time in places, yet it sounds perfect in the mix.
McCartney's vocal was superb. Amazing track.

Yep. I think Lennon's performance actually helps give the song that ragged, manic edge--which none of the above artists, even the supposed heavier/harder-rock ones, was able to capture in their covers.

Hard to beat the original which features Lennon playing a Fender Bass VI - here's the iso bass track = massive pic attack
This track just screams for sloppy - it's pure rock!! Just adds to the pure intensity of the track. IMO, of course

Beatles all the way on Helter Skelter.....

I remember listening to that long before it gained cult status with the likes of Charles Manson.....and the endless diatribes on what the song actually meant..

I thought it was incredibly inventive for what it was.....

The thing with a lot of Beatles songs is that you didn't have to be a drug user to know exactly what they were talking about and feeling.....

This is one of those songs where they take you into the mental realm (as if you were a tourist on a guided tour observing the inner goings on) and let you be there without actually having to be part of it.......the Beatles excelled at this.
