Henry Olsen: Primal Scream

i met her a while back as we have a friend in common, nice person. she has also sold me various bits of musical gear over the years as she worked in the shops on Denmark St/Tin Pan Alley.

it was a bit of a Bill and Ted "whoah!" moment when i heard she'd started playing for Primal Scream! great gig, good for her.

Sorry, got name wrong. Original bassist's name is Henry Olsen. Simone's a great player though! Kudos to you and her, what a gig :) she replicates the lines well.

Edit: and a great example of "over-preparing" for an audition.. Love her style!

ah right, fair enough! yep it sounds like a brilliant gig for her. no kudos due to me at all ;)

i hadn't heard of Olsen, but some of the basslines on Screamadelica and Give Out But Don't Give Up are brilliant. Rocks is great in particular. wonder why they parted ways with him.

Yeah, I think I'm definately going to have to invest in some of their albums. I think I had a 12" of theirs back in the day. I come from the 90s, so they're right up my alley! Love that somebody else here has also heard of them.

The basslines in some of their songs are phenomenal. Phenomenally perfect for the songs and I believed carried some of those songs.

Slight bump as i was listening to "Loaded" from Sceamadelica... it is a great bassline, but also a direct steal from "Sympathy for the Devil". Sounds great though, proof that if you're going to steal, steal from the best and be shameless about it ;)

it is... sort of. keith's bass line is a lot more frantic than henry's playing on loaded.

i don't think simone or mani quite managed to nail henry's groove on the recorded version.
