Hercules wide-neck stands are no more...

One of mine rolled off a table and onto a concrete floor, breaking off the neck-grabber.
Thought I might just replace the neck-grabber part, but not only is that not available anywhere (even Hercules...) they no longer make that style stand.

Their current offerings appear flimsier and use a clutch, not a pin for height adjustment. ANd 52mm max neck width, rather than the 2-3/8" of the older versions. (Which were still too narrow for my 7, but oh well...).

So - 6-string bass people - Hercules is off the table.

Have you found any stage-rugged wide-neck stands? Hercules abandoned us...

The new height adjustment still uses the pin, just in a more ergonomic button.

The new AGS+ should be a lot wider than the old grip.

I had a 414 and height mechanism failed and they warranted it with the new style.

Much improved and will hold your 6 string.

2.05" will not fit my bass...
The description does mention the pin, which I'd missed before, so thanks for pointing that out.

I just measured the old vs the new head.

The new Plus style is larger, but by a hair.

You are correct sir, it will mostly not fit your bass. But the foam will “give” after you throw the bass on it and possibly give you the dimensions you need.


The New Plus head is first, and the old gen second.

This is what I did when I had a seven string bass with a wide neck that wouldn't fit a
regular guitar stand.

You take the yoke part off a the stand.
Get a rubber mallet and find a metal trash dumpster.
Gently hammer the back of the yoke against the corner of the dumpster.
This will open the yoke more.

This will widen the opening of the yoke.




Edit:Now I have three six string basses.
This is what I use now.
A Quiklok GS 430 triple stand.

The 'wide neck' version was different, IIRC.

They actually sent me a warranty form.
It's been at least 5 years since I bought it, and we've established they no longer make anything they could replace it with...

Lifetime warranty, and they may have a NOS hidden in inventory somewhere.

Yes, the neck grabber is definitely wider. I can use it for my 7 string bass. I actually have two, the one on the left and the one on the right:

And, if you look at the middle one, the wall hanger model is the GSP38WB Plus, which can hold a 6 string BTB (neck width at nut is ± 2⅛", roughly similar to what @ArtechnikA has shown). The neck grabber of the middle one is the same as the one on GS414B Plus stand @Clark Westfield is referring to.

So, Hercules isn't abandoning 6 string bass players with its current offerings.

The spec sheet of the BTB7 string says the width at nut is 63mm, or about 2.5". For sure it won't fit even in the GSP38WB Plus wall hanger or the GS414B Plus stand.

I used my Hercules double and triple guitar stands (most current models) for Warwick SSI 6 string basses (broadnecks). The fit was snug, but they fit just fine, and those basses had very wide nut-widths.

I'd like to think it's a market opportunity, but no one seems willing to step up.
I don't like A-frames - I have a couple I keep on hand mostly for guitar players. I don't think they're very secure, and their supports interfere with the jack location (although in truth, I almost never rack a plugged-in bass...)

Update: The 414B barely fits my Roscoe 6; it is snug, but it works.
