I tried this way earlier in the day and was denied! Through some friendly suggestions and some help (lots of help) from my 17 year old son, Wyatt, we got a Myspace page up and running. It's pretty basic, feel free to link to it or whatever happens to add friends.. Ha

Seems that many people have been sharing lately and so, somewhat against my better judgement, I thought I would submit two studio recordings: different sessions done on different days. One is my humble take on an old warhorse the other is a blues head I wrote just so I could play something else besides "Billies Bounce"; "Au Privave", "Mr. P.C.' and "Roller Skating with Sonny". Those are the standard blues called on Kauai. The irony is not lost on me about all the blues posts lately but what the heck! If you have questions, want to know who played ect. I'll be happy to try and answer.

Yes, Trey! Nice. Intonation is right on, good sound...bass, for me, a bit hot in the mix.
I only had the time to listen to Alone Together, but your nods to Scott throughout your nice solo was effective, and more than that, tasteful.

Thanks Paul. Coming from you that is pretty high praise. I kinda feel that I've listened to those Bill Evans recordings so much and been captivated for so many years by Scott's playing that at this point, I probably just do what I do without thinking too much about it! Hard to believe the Scott was only, what 22 or 23 when those recordings were made and only 24 or so when he died. What an incredible loss! I also very much agree with you that the bass is too hot in the mix. I now this has been said in another thread but, If you ever write a book, I will buy it!

Thanks Marc. I'm glad you liked the playing. I'm not going to point out all the stuff I don't like about my own playing. I suspect we all, or at least many of us, are our own worst critics. Let me just say, intonation, time, phrasing and good ideas are a constant challenge and probably a day to day negotiation! Your input is greatly valued!:cool:

Thank god you don't play like you use your computer. If you did, i'd have DURRL kick your ass outta here.

Click on "Quote", down on your right and save yourself some typing and using those silly little small letters.

I find way too much humor in King Krumudgin P-dub laying down the law on computer usage.

Shee-it Paul, take heart, your young yet.

Old folks (like my grandparents God bless all their souls) won't go within 10 yards of a computer.

I sure did! Really great playing. Swingin and sinceare and just fun to lisitin to. Like Paul said you are hot in the mix (prolly even more so for all us bass players with the bass knob jacked up a bit) but you take to the front row well with all that good intonation and clean time. Your sound is big but your tone on the recording seems a tiny bit sparse on woodieness(?),particularlly your lowest octave. I really like your time feel as the way you mix walking, two feel, and broken time on Alone and not Alone. How were you hooked in for the recording?
I'd love to hear you live taking chances.

Like Jake said you gotta change your settings on MySpace in order to accept freinds. Your gonna hafta con your son into changing it if you don't wanna go on their and play around. Good Luck

Thanks so much for all the great insight and input. My recollection is that we used 2 mikes on the bass a Neuman 67 which is an older warmer mike and a Neuman 87 which ended up sounding a little honky in the mids. We had plenty of ISO which allowed me to overachieve in the volume department. ha ha.

The engineer is a friend of mine who was an L.A. guy. Ron Pendragon. He worked with George Massenburg, helped build the Complex, recorded and produced Ramsey Louis, EWF and Little Feet to name a few. He prolly tends to favor the rock style mix a bit.

In regards to switching from 2 to 4 to broken time...this is where explaining gets tricky because I'm not real good at explaining. I was just doing what felt right at the moment with the piano player and the drummer. We all know each other real well and there's an element of trust that just happens. There have been so many great explanations and examples on this site from great people talking about these things. Truth is when it comes time to play, you just have to be light on your feet "Hopefully":)
