so I have a blown speaker issue in this thread

so I've been pondering my sound and the current guitars in the band and where it's all going.

and I think tubes might be a good way to go...and a 15 and 4 10cabs.
and I don't have the spare cash right now...I need to put a new garage up at the old home stead.


and then...while cleaning out the old Garage I came across .....
an old Ampeg vt-40....I had forgotten I owned.
it's a guitar amp just like this http://www.ampegv4.com/

except it's a 4 10 combo.
it needs some work...tubes and a cleaning.
so I was thinking ...get this thing up and running and pair it with my 15 and I got a vintage tube 410 1 15 set up that's plenty loud.....for the stoner/doom/riff rock of LOUD that I am currently loving.

I'm thinking its a way to get me by until I got the spare coin for an Orange or Green set up.

so am I crazy?
could it work?
is it a bad idea?
thoughts?

I would not use the existing guitar-intended speaker cab (not full-range anyway), but if you run the amp head portion into a couple of large bass cabs it will probably sound killer. It would take some technical finagling, but if you were to cross over the output of the head so that only the mids and highs went to the attached 4x10, and lows (or the full signal) went to a proper bass cab, then that could be very cool.

I've always wondered if a tech could change the tone stack voicing on guitar amps to make them more like bass amps.

I have one.
Think it's only 60 watts; is that enough power for your application.
Does sound very good for guitar and believe that it has enough bottom without mods for bass.
I'm assuming that you LIKE to carry large, heavy, rectangular objects

EDIT: Meant that you could use the amp to drive a separate cabinet and not use the 4x10's it came with; agree with RB; no way can those cheesy 10's in an open back will survive with bass

That part is easy. It's the speaker box part that is doomed, and no mods will help it (aside from the crossover-with-a-bass-cab thing I mentioned).
