I guess some folks are overly optimistic about being able to find some not so educated in what they are buying rube, with cash in hand, that will buy their slightly overpriced offerings. Yep, it's legal like it or not. This offering for sale will be worth watching.

I certainly don't fault these guys for trying. Profit is not a dirty word. But, I think I'd go about it differently? Maybe not setting a Buy It Now price? Especially if it's ridiculous..... Put it up on the block & set a reserve. See what happens..... If you get what you want, great. If not, you learned it's not worth it.

As always, BUYER BEWARE!!!!

Not at all. I'm very much a free market capitalist pigboy and proud of it. I'm just saying the seller is maybe just a bit optimistic about current market conditions for what he's asking. I'm presuming the OP probably is thinking the same thing, hence the posting and why some of us find some humor in it. If the seller get's what they're asking, they hit one out of the ball park. However there are some folks who don't understand that a seller has the right to ask for any price they want, no matter how absurdly high it might be on something, and they act like it's a crime. I'm not one of those people. None the less, I find overpriced listings to be quite silly and even entertaining at times. Fortunately the workings of the market place usually leaves such would be sellers with unsold merchandise. Eventually they'll check out what the competition is actually selling the same item for and they'll adjust accordingly.

Maybe the seller bought an SX, put a new bridge on it, put on some quality strings, did a proper setup on it, and expects to be compensated for the time and money he has put into it. I can see that, but unfortunately, the market dictates that what he really has is the proverbial "polished turd". Not much market for those.

Why would anyone be shocked that people are trying to sell these for more? Hundreds you have posted its the best bass for the price so this is what you get. $75 for the bass $20 for the new strings $50 for the new bridge $20 for the Chicken head knobs and $50 for the case...round it off to $250 and a photocopy of all the great reviews its a steal.

"Polished turd" is kind of harsh. It's still a good instrument for it's price point. (I love mine!) But the $150 price bump from what it was when new is a little silly. I've certainly seen used MIM J's for around what he's asking. Are they any better? In my book, not really. But, the price of used gear is (most) always some fraction of the price when new..... Usually what? 1/2 to 3/4? Ballpark, depending what it is. With that idea alone, a used SX J should never cost what a used MIM J does. Unless we're talking about a case of serious abuse/damage.

I can see paying a little extra for mods that are worth the price..... To me, a bridge & strings don't qualify. I'm gonna put on my favorite strings anyway, and I've had no problems with the stock bridge on my SX.

I did pay above value for mine, but the frets had been leveled. I've paid for that work before & know what it costs. So the extra $$ was worth it to me, as I would've had to pay to have it done anyway.

And that's all that matters in the end..... The buyer feels the item is worth what they paid. I don't blame the guy for trying to get $299 for it. But, we, being the learned consumers that we are, find it entertaining. :hyper:
