and getting a fretless neck to trade off on the bass once in a while.

my plan is to have THE all around bass. I also would Like to put something together that is completely mine and customized.

I've been itching for a fretless as well as a solid back up bass and I think this could be it.

as far as switching necks goes I would olny trade once in a while based on my needs, but I would like to keep a similar look so does anyone have any ideas on a good rosewood fretless neck?

I also would like to have both neck hooked up with their own hardware so that they are really interchangable (well those annoying strings would get in the way but i can deal), but I don't know anything about decent tuning machines...

I don't know about the Jazz pup yet... I might leave it for another day and eventually turn this thing into a double P-bass but as of now I have no plans...

I was about to do the same as you except I was gonna get the black model and slap a fretless maple black blocked neck on it. Most likely TI Jazz flats and eventually change the pups to either barts or DiMarzio's.... hadn't decided that far.

Then I found a deal I couldn't pass...

Anyway, I think that's a pretty good build, you may wanna try the stock pickups and see if you like em' by themselves. But a DiMarzio J Bridge pickup I think would go nicely with that combo.

As far the neck switching, wouldn't it just be easier (I know more expensive) to just get another PJ bass so one is fretted and the other fretless? Either way though, hardware wouldn't be to expensive, and by the time you're done with just those mods, you'd have a pretty sweet bass.

Rondo sells rosewood necks, I wish they would sell the Rosewood necks from their fretted full scale Jaguar Body Style... they don't have the perloid inlayed rosewood necks in their parts area....yet....

Another option is Warmoth or ebay. I'm sure someone else will chime in with better suggestions. :)

Actually, Rosewood, pearloid block jazz necks have come and gone (they went pretty quick). I hope they come back!
